Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG-pronounce cabbage) is a last resort if the blockages are in a location that cannot be opened with the balloon. They take internal mammary artery from the chest, sometimes radial artery from the arm, and saphenous vein from the leg. Most surgerys will take 4-5 hrs depending on the surgeon and blockages. Most patients go home in three to four days and usually recover fully in 6-8 weeks.

I've had Heart Surgery. Normally the patient is in the hospital for about two to three days and then is allowed to go home with someone to look after him/her for a week or two. Exercise in the form of walking short distances two to three times a day is recommended. Heart Surgery is pretty routine these days and chances for recovery are excellent, and the surgery, other than being quite inconvenient, is a lot less painful than one would imagine. If arteries are blocked, he gets the Surgery in my opinion. He wants to lead a good and active life, he gets the surgery.\\

all anknown ... ask your doctors/surgeons/nurses
depends on how many arteries / what has to be done. it depends on if everything goes well in there . if the patient before goes longer makes him later. the head doctor is usually paged room to room . he gives them instructions and they carry it out. he goes back to other operating suite overseas gives instructions , goes to next one. if he is late , the surgery can be delayed.
recovery will depend if the surgery goes beautiful as planned and has no complication you could be home fast. if it's slower , then it may take a little time. let the staff care for your a few days and worry not about going home. this is a hard surgery to go through / have the advantage of a training staff to make you comfortable and monitor your body after surgery.

The surgery is relatively simple and doesn't take very long. A catheter is placed in either the left or right femoral artery and advanced to the heart and then into the obstructed coronary artery and a stent or stents are placed to open the artery. When the operation is finished he will have a bandaid on his inner thigh that will be removed the next day. He might be in the hospital for a few days but really not that long.

I had this surgery in Feb of this year. The surgery can last anywhere from 7-9 hours. I spent a week in the hospital and I was home for 8 weeks recovering.
if you have any other questions about the surgery just let me know!

If he requires CABG then "Randy" has given you accurate information, except for the recovery time, it's more like six months.
