The Mediterranean diet which is currently promoted as a model for 'good health' comes from the Greek island of Crete and Southern Italy. Since the 1980's, the foods and dietary patterns of Greece and Southern Italy have changed considerably with the increased use of meat, dairy products, polyunsaturated margarines and less olive oil, legumes and nuts.
Lots of citrus and fresh herbs (basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, mint...). Lots of dried fruit & nuts and also honey, figs, dates, yogurt, cheeses, grilled meats, fruits & veggies, wine, artisanal breads/pasta...

Ok, I am Mediterranean, but our food is simply not just sooo nice but really healthy! Salad with olive oil and lemon with every meal, no more than three times a week meat, good wine, loads of fish on charcoal of the grill just with olive oil, lemon, salt and bit of oregano. So many recipies without meat!Thick nice yogourt with honey and nuts for desert, what can i say??Go on www.greekrecipies.gr
