Can a person who can't take the sight of too much blood have a career as a Radiology technician?

Most radiologic technologists will be around blood. I work in a free standing imaging facility, so my involvement with bodily fluids is limited at this job. My patients walk in and walk out of our office (generally) and they are never covered in blood! We do biopsies and breast needle localizations, which involves very little blood, but there is still some. Radiologic technologists also give injections for certain exams. If you want to go into CT or MRI scanning, you would do many more injections.

Most RTs work in a hospital setting, and you will be involved in many situations with blood or body fluids. You will be required to take x-rays in the ER department. I used to work in a hospital which was the county's trauma center, and I did imaging studies on patients who were in nasty car accidents or pedestrian vs. automobiles or motorcycle riders wiping out on the freeway at 70 MPH. Then there were the suicides, gunshot victims and knife wounds. We also take x-rays during surgical procedures, and there is lotsa blood there. We take x-rays up in ICU or CCU on portable x-ray machines. In those cases, you get to deal with all kinds of tubes coming out of all kinds of places on a patient.

So, if you are really queasy, and you don't think you could adjust, then you need to work in a different field! Best wishes.....

Phuket doesn't know what she's talking about. As a radiologic technologist (the correct title), you see a lot of blood and everything else that comes out of a human body.

So the answer is no. You either have to get over it or find a different line of work.

Good luck.
