I've been really moody and easily annoyed with things that didn't use to bug me so much. I've also been REALLY thirsty, and REALLY NOT hungry. I've lost a couple pounds (which is acctually ok with me), but it's wierd because I could never even loose a pound before when I was trying to. I've had a lot of headaches and stomach aches too. I thought it was because I am getting over the flu (or something like that) and it was just normal. But I was on this site where you write your symptoms and it tells you what could be happening, and it mentioned diabetes 1 or 2. it said that some people get the symptoms after being sick with flu symptoms and they think its only that. My grandpa has type 1 and my dad had type 2, so i could get either one. My dad has a blood suger tester and i tested myself and my blood suger is 101. Is that ok? i don't know what the normal level is. And what do you think about the rest of it?

hey!
ok hun! i say u should have a doctor chk u out first before u start diagnosing urself! 101 is a normal # when it comes to a diabetic but normally normal people r a bit lower than that...like 85-100. im not saying that ur sick with it! but i would still chk it out before it starts maybe going up more! u could going through a little strees, u may need to just change ur diet or something! remember....the faster u chk something the better it is to maybe get rid of it or stop it in its tracks and keep it that way! ok?
talk to ur parents and let them know how ur feeling...if not a parent, then an aunt or uncle and ask them to go with u so u dont have to go alone!
goodluck hun!

Yeah, anything around or under 100mg/dL is an okay blood sugar assuming that you havent eaten anything in the past several hours. If so, a good blood glucose two hours after a meal is under 140mg/dL.

When you're 14, there are certainly a lot of hormones changing as youre probably starting your period and all of that fun stuff, so its not completely uncommon at that point to feel symptoms like that.

How recent are these symptoms, and how often do you experience them?

Also, I would try to take a blood glucose every morning when you wake up for the next week. Each morning before eating breakfast, take a reading and record it. If you find your value is under 105mg/dL, you shouldnt worry yet about diabetes, but if you're up above 125, then its time to go to a doctor.

I would go to the doctor. Talk to your mom. Diabetes definitely runs in your family, so keep an eye on what you eat.
See my earlier posts. You may want to keep a record on what you eat and drink when, and how you feel, and if there is a fever.
If you hands are shaky a lot (tremors), and you're cold a lot, you could have a thyroid problem. Especially if the lower part of your neck is really sticking out. That is called a "goiter". If that is all true, you could have a hyper-thyroid. The doctor can suggest different treatment options. This problem can also you to stop menstruating.
It could be a flu, if you are really thirsty. Sometimes, we get dehydrated when you're sick, and the body needs more fluids.
Good luck!
M.

101 is great! Diabetic diagnosis is at 126 and you are normal. But, keep in mind if your parents have type 2 you have a very high chance of getting it later on. Lukily type 2 can be exercised away and type 1 (the bad one) is not very hereditary.

Type 1 is when you're born with it and more dangerous. Type 2 you develop later in life. A reading of between 90-130 is great after about two hours after a meal - surely your dad knows all this?
Medical diagnosis over the interent is very bad - don't do it!

in the pre-hospital setting, we treat anything lower than 70 mg/dl and anything above 250 mg/dl. if you are at 101 then you are ok. at the age of 14, your body is very susceptible to physiological change. weight loss and gain is normal. as far as the mood swings, that is normal at age 14. as far as maintaining body weight, the best way is to eat 3 well proportioned meals a day. if you get into the habbit of eating too little, your body will want to "hold on" to more fat for energy. if you eat too much, then your body cannot compensate and manage your hemodynamic (normal) body weight.

101 is a good blood sugar for your age. anything between 80 and 120 is a good blood sugar.
