The HPV is spread through contact with infected body fluids. The only people without HPV are virgins-- this means no oral sex either. It is possible to get HPV infection in the throat, anus, eyes, and gential areas. You do not have to show warts to have it. This makes it deadly and it can cause cancer. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease. I have not seen testing on babies yet . Its possible to contract it during delivery of a baby. To the misinformed person below, warts do not have to be present to transmit HPV. This is why its so deadly The person doesn't even realize they have the infection unless they go to the doctor and get tested. Its the same thing with the herpes virus. In women, you will find it on the cervix and it can travel up to the uterus. This is why they take a sample from your cervix.. One of the first signs is inflammation of the cells of the cervix. It can progress to dysplasia. If your lucky, the inflammation can go away on its own but the virus remains. .

Babies can be born with HPV if their mother has HPV, and has an outbreak of genital warts during the time of delivery. Contracting HPV at birth is EXTREMELY rare.

Most people contract HPV by sex (vaginal, oral, or anal) or by DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area of someone who has the virus. Although condoms HELP prevent the spread of STDs, they are not 100% effective, especially with HPV and genital herpes. Since the condom ONLY covers a man's penis and not the entire genital area, just the rubbing back and forth of the genital areas during sex or foreplay is enough to spread HPV or genital herpes.

Take care!

Babies can contract HPV from their mothers if they are born vaginally and the mother has warts in her vaginal tract. HPV/warts is spread by direct contact with a wart NOT by bodily fluids as another answerer claims. You can catch it from any part of your body coming into contact with a wart but generally presents in the genital, anus and sometimes mouth. Worth noting that condoms are no guarentee if your partner has warts in an area not covered by the condom. ie in the pubic hair, near the anus etc. also worth noting that 80% of people in the 18-35 age group have HPV and that there are more than 100 strains, 4 of which may cause cancer
