Is Oyster Sauce Vegetarian

2016-11-11 04:24:27 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Hi Wisdom:

Great to hear from you. I believe oyster sauce are mostly made of oyster extract with some sesame on it. I don't think meat is one of the ingredients. Otherwise the taste would be different and the name label for it will be questionable.

Oyster sauce may serve as an appetizer for vegetarians too!

My best regards.

Oyster sauce has a richer taste. It tastes a bit like clams and has the seafood smell. Vegetarian mushroom oyster sauce is less rich and tastes less robust. It is healthier than oyster sauce. Fried rice needs a high temperature and a strong cooker to fry. You can use overnight rice.

Oyster sauce is not vegetarian..... It contains oysters and brine (small shrimp commonly called sea monkeys in the US).

However, there is a kind made with Oyster mushrooms that is.....
apparently this is a very good substitue for the real thing.....

well there are different kinds. If you were to just go to your local grocery store and buy the general "Oyster sauce" then, no it's not vegetarian. If you were to buy namste in the chinese section, it is vegetarian oyster sauce. Ad it tastes just like the real stuff!

i always think about it like this:

if you put a hunk of meat in water for any amount of time. then take the meat out, would a vegetarian want to drink that water?

not any vegetarian that i've ever met.

so that's how i've come to understand the difference between vegetarian and non vegetarian sauces

if meat has come in contact with any ingredient in the sauce, it's not vegetarian

Look at the ingredients. Most of the time it contains oyster extract, sometimes it doesn't. When in doubt, I would assume that it does contain oyster.

Oyster sauce are generally dark. It is also saltier than the vegetarian mushroom oyster sauce. It is used primarily to season a dish instead of adding colour to it. I've used both and taste-wise, oyster sauce is richer than the mushroom one. But, because of the high sodium content, I've since switched to the mushroom oyster sauce now. :) I hope that helps.
