I am 30 years old. 5'11 255 lbs. My blood pressure when laying down is systolic 110-120's and diastolic 60s-70s, but when I suddenly sit up or stand...my blood pressure goes up to 150/110-120. Why?

The sudden standing cud cause postural hypotension ( fall of BP up to 10 mm Hg & is normal ) but sudden more fall of BP may give rise in trying to autoregulate hpertension as u say. This may be a intial stage of devloping permanant high BP. Try to control ur wt. it looks ur overwt. & sudden standing shud be avoided for gradual adjustment of postural reflexes. Also cut down salt intake.

In my opinion, after how much time it takes; for the BP back to normal, if it is persistent, than you do require immediate medical attention.
1) are you facing any symptoms of hypertension.
2)do the reading come to normal within 5 to 10 minutes, than you are fine, as many of the patients this postural hypotension to some degrees.
you should atleast lie down for 5 minutes, and than sit for a couple of minutes and than stand up.
Therefore follow the above steps.
CUT down your weight by 5 lbs. and I presume you don't do any physical, better start walking, and take normal salt in your diet, at the same time cut sugar and fat.
I think you will be alright in a matter of month.
Hope answered your question.

It's not a pathologic findings, it'S still in physiologic interval. It was an autoregulation for such an excercise that manifested in a sudden rise in blood pressure preserved by the heart and vascular systems. You should do on excercise and avoid high fat meals.
