Over my life, I've heard many people talk about how disgusting it is that Asian countries eat dogs and cats yet they still eat meat. Meat is meat, right? And God put all these creatures here for us to eat, right? So, why is it ok to eat other animals and not dogs and cats? Just because they're domesticated is not a very good answer.

Hypocrites? I think so.

Well, I'm a vegetarian, but I used to eat meat like it was going out of style. I can understand why someone would eat livestock yet think that eating domesticated animals are disgusting. It's difficult to imagine eating an animal you treat like a family member. On the other hand, eating livestock is easy, because it was raised for food. In Western culture, we have always grown up knowing that dogs and cats are pets while livestock is for food.

They're not really hypocrites, it's just differences in culture.

BTW, it's not a very good idea to criticize someone's religion. The main monotheistic religions are really not for or against meat eating.

If someone wants to eat meat, it's really none of your concern. You're not slaughtering or raising the animal, you're not asked to fix it, and no one is forcing you to eat it. Just let it go. You're happy, right? They're happy, right? Well, then, let's move on.

that is just their culture...there are cultures that eat beetles and worms and grubs, some that drink coffee made from beans that are eaten and then crapped out by lemurs, some that even eat monkeys, i've also heard that some asian cultures eat aborted human fetuses...ours is a culture that eats cows and pigs, which many countries find disgusting...it's vegetarians like you that give most of you a bad name, preaching and talking down to omnivores like you are better than the rest of the world...i am an omnivore, and i have a few vegetarian and one vegan friend, and we eat together and never have any problems with what the other is eating so just get off your soapbox and remember the old saying...."do unto others..."

People eat animals that are not their pets. That's part of the reason that farmers don't normally name their cows. I wouldn't eat a cat because I have pet cats. If I had a pet chicken I probably wouldn't eat chicken (although I had 5 pet geese once, and we knew when we got them what their eventual fate would be).

In culture where they DO eat dog, the dogs they're eating are not their pets. We put human characteristics on our pets, so we could no more eat them than a member of the family.

Hypocrites? Hardly. I don't eat my house plants, either. They're a part of the family and they are not food... but the plants in the garden or the store are. Same thing.

I've eaten cat, but I have not eaten dog. In France horse meat is considered a delicacy. Quite sweet, I am told. Frog legs and escargot (snails) are also common food. I have eaten caviar (sturgeon roe) and bear. The bear I had was rancid. I do not know what fresh bear meat tastes like.

The best meat I have ever had is elk. Absolutely delicious. Of course, lobsters and crabs are very good. Scallops. Salmon. If God did not want us to eat the animals, She would not have made them out of meat.

Well its often said that whats taboo to some is life to others. In india they do not eat cows because they belive that their dead relitives come back as cows. In asia eating cats and dogs date back to when food was scarse and the only avalible food was what was running around. In this country we do not eat domesticated animals. why? couldn't tell you. Basicly lets end with this, when in rome do what the romens do and try to survive. eat what you wish and if its taboo, well then oh well. oh by the way, eating other humans is taboo by all cultures except for the cast of alive.

It is the way we are raised. Do not be judgemental about it.

Obviously eskimoes couldn't survive on a vegi diet. They eat what God gives them.

I am a vegetarian of 37 years. I have a choice and made the choice.

However nothing hurts or disgusts me more to hear vegans criticize omnivores. It is a choice one must make and to feel superior about your diet is arrogance and counter productive
for any positive change. Just like religion. God loves all..

I think it is because dogs and cats are animals that people have as pets and see almost as being family. For me when I imagine someone eating a dog or cat I picture my dogs and cats, and I think how could someone eat one of them? I think it is all in the way we see dogs and cats, we don't see them as being livestock, or something to be eaten, we see them as being pets and family. Think about this, you wouldn't want anyone to be eating your son or daughter, and many people do see their pets as being like their children.

It's a cultural thing to determine which animals are okay to eat and which ones aren't.

Since I don't eat animals at all, I find it somewhat ironic.
