The reason I ask is because I saw a beautiful fox fur stole at Saks Fifth that would go beautifully with my dress for a fancy dinner party I'm going to. Now I don't believe in killing animals for their fur, but I do have a neighbor that raises foxes and he said he would lend one to me for the party. I thought I could just drape it over my shoulder, and return it afterward and that way I'll look stylish and no animals will get hurt. Do you think this is a good idea?

It would depend on what else you are wearing. A hamster pocket kerchief might clash.

tsumaru seems a little confused at best, hypocrtical at worst. The "need meat" / protien statements are not true. There is no other way to describe them. Comparing mans approach to eating meat with a lions is way too simplistic even for the most basic of discussions. Do you chase Gazelles around the tundra and kill it with your bare hands, eating the flesh raw ? Does a lion cage up Zebras in barns with thousands of othere zebras all thier lifes just so it can slaughter them for food ? No, so that comparison can stop there - there is nothing to compare. Tsuamu claims s/he recognises animal suffering but does not know how to go about changing the treatment of livestock. eeerrr, stop supporting it ? or support CIWF or such ? There, that wasn't too difficult and certainly not a "hard thing to do". In fact, you could take that action instantly. "from now on, i will not support poor animal treatment." saying its hard, difficult or don't know how is just excuses really. There is a ton of evidence and examples of how to help stop/reduce cruelty to animals available Its down to the will to do it. If people don't have the will, they should just say so. Eating eggs harms millions of creatures. Hens are killed at 9 motnhs old rather than a natural 10 year old death. They are generally housed in appauling conditions. Sorry, but I don't see any complexity in this. If you want to reduce/stop animals suffering at your expense, you can do it, today.

To tell you the truth, that is a pretty horrible idea, a living fox and a dead fox are two different fashion statements. The dead one will look good for some, but the live one, while looking good, can act like an animal that it is and wreck up your party by eating of the table, or making you its potty.

If this is a serious question--
I think *most* animals would be difficult to wear-- they'd get bored & uncomfortable, & probably aren't housetrained. This would put wearing most live animals into the *exploitation* category. Although 2 of our cats enjoy draping themselves across my shoulder (not @ the same time obviously), it's usually for under 2 minutes & it must be the *cat's* idea.
On the other paw, we have some companion rats who *love* shoulder-riding & are content to do this for a reasonable amount of time, especially if they are given treats & attention. Doubt if they'd be welcome @ a fancy dinner party tho.

your neighbor raises foxes? the only thing anybody farms foxes for is their fur, so you're talking about taking a live animal, wearing it to a party, then returning it to its owner who's going to kill it so somebody else can wear it dead to a party later on. ?!
for starters, the host of your party does not want you to bring a live fox. it may not be a "wild" fox, but it sure isn't a tame one and chaos will ensue.
if you really want to make a statement and save some animals, you should break into your neighbor's farm some night and let all the foxes go.

Um... are you saying you're going to take a real fox, coil it around your neck, trying to make it look like a fox fur stole? That will look horrible, the animal won't be happy, he'll probably bite you on your neck... theres TONS of things wrong with that idea.

Hmmm... While in theory this may work, for a dinner party it may not. Most of the time, your stole would be taken when entering as you wouldn't sit thru dinner wearing it. Also, the host/hostess might be a bit startled at a live animal at the dinner table! Good luck though...

Oh sure!! It's great idea. I've done it myself. You're so lucky your neighbor has foxes. I didn't look very elegant when I went to the dinner party with my poodle wrapped around my neck :(

Despite the appearances that airheads like Britney Spears, Nicole Ritchie and Paris Hilton give, animals are actually not fashion accessories.

However, your idea sounds pretty "interesting". Why don't you give that a try and let us know how it works out for ya?? I'm sure the fox won't mind at ALL! lol!

I think that's a very funny idea. I can imagine a bunch of women running around with foxes draped around their shoulders. In restaurants you would have to order food for your clothes.
