Have the opposite sides of a die always added up to 7 and if so has it been for the reason Ratty gave?

I always beleived it to be plain superstition. The die is used in games of luck. Apparently, 7 is a lucky number. But who knows, the real reason could be something really stupid. Like the inventors birthday was on the 7th of july. I guess it's a mystery. =]

Ratty is correct. Also, 7 is the only number that can be the same on the three opposite sides.
