No, you should not file the FAFSA form now because it is only set up for the 2007-2008 academic year. This year ends with the summer sessions of 2008. The form you want is available on January 1. It should be completed in January, early February, or at the latest the earliest financial aid deadline for new students among the colleges and universities you applied for admission. The FAFSA form can be done long before you have received your admitted status letters from the colleges and universities. I do recommend beginning your scholarship search right now to help minimalize the need for student loans. I will include some free resources to find money for college tuition that you can begin searching for now.

First, current high school students can locate local scholarships at the highs school guidance office along with any merit scholarships and grants from the state. Local scholarships are typically the easiest to get.

Second, the local library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. There is a search based on information that you enter into a form. The majority of these scholarships are on the national level. There is a scholarship for almost anything including wearing duct tape to the senior prom.

Good luck!
