War is very common. Wars are:

1. Fought for the rights of others
2. The want of land
3. The want of food.
4. Hunger
5. Religion
6. Hate
7. Misunderstandings
8. Power
9. Being Afraid of your neighbor
10. Water
11. Wanting what your neighbor has
12. and for no reason at all.

War is never really necessary. But some times it is the only way out of the Kobi-Atshi-Maru, the no win scenario.

Peace on the other hand is rare. It is when countries work out there differences at a conference table. For the last 62 years there has not been a war in Europe. I think that is the longest time period of peace there forever. NATO, the European Union, the fall of Communism, and the fear of Nuclear Winter were some of the reasons for peace. Also, that no one after WWII wanted to known as the aggressor.
