Apparently in my last question I didn't make myself completely clear. Answer all the questions! Why do people believe that putting man made chemicals into their bodies is the answer to mental health problems? Why do doctors put these chemicals into our bodies to cover up a problem instead of trying to find the real reason behind them and instead fixing them that way? Not chemical imbalance, no...that is a lie made up by doctors to help support pill pushing, what I am talking about is what the cause in everyday life is. Are doctors stupid? Not in the book sense but in common sense. Book smarts is not being smart if you don't have common sense to go with it. Now a new question. Why would you take a medication that alters your state of mind, basically what makes you, you?
Again answer all questions. Serious answers only.

I would first like to say I am sooo sorry about the abuse you have recieved from others. Aparently they do not realize that you probably have a mental disorder that their harassment is not helping you with your question.
1. I believe people who put these chemicals in their bodies are blind. They listen to the hype on the media about these meds and from their doctors. Now a days everyone believe anything a doctor tells them. Which I don't I research into everything a doctor tells me so as to advert any dangers.

2. Doctors push these medications onto people because they receive a percentage of the profit that the pharmecutical companies make by perscribing them more frequently. Plus it's easier for them to just perscribe a medication then take the time to understand the person. They claim they are "too busy" even though you have a scheduled appointment that is expected to last from thirty min. to an hour. What are they doing with that extra time? Talking about golf. Ha ha ha.

3. Doctors are stupid in my opinion because they only do what they are told and taught. They don't think for themselves and in that manner they are stupid.

4. I understand what you are trying to say with the altering of the state of mind. I believe what you are referring to is how a lot of people's personality and character changes when taking a medication. Such as becoming psychotic due to a medication, feeling detached from the world etc. In all instance's it's not good to change who you are because a mental disorder is a part of you and through herbal cure's and herbal medicinals we can find better ways to treat these very bad case's of mental disturbance. Other's just simply need help or support. Not through therapists, they are also doing what they are taught, they have no insight on the matter because they themselves have never experienced any of what people with mental disorders are going through because plain and simple they don't have them. I believe the best way to recovery for a person with a mental disability is support groups that have people who know how to handle their mental health problems and share with others.
To the e-mail you sent to me, love the support group and am seriously thinking about joining it.

Some people need these drugs to honestly function properly, some people do not. Some people can go to therapy and learn strategys and keep using them to help them and not need meds at all, but for some people this is impossible even if they try. Ive been on several antidepressants, anti anxietys and so on and ive also done ALOT of therapy and psychology sessions and learnt Cognetive Behaviroual Therapy but i just couldnt put them into practice once off meds no matter how hard I tried. Some doctors are stupid yes, but some are very good at what they do and some also just push drugs off to anyone. The medication I am on now alters the state of my mind (seroquel) but I prefer my mind being altered for the better, if I wasnt on this med I would be randomly manic then very very depressed and get angry and how outburts at people for no reason without even realising it and I would most definatly end up in a psych ward if I didnt start taking it.
Again, everybody is different and everyone has different opinions on the matter. And there actually are chemical imbalances in peoples brain that do cause these problems, its not a made up fact by doctors that push drugs.... the doctors dont get the money for the drugs, the pharmacuetical companys do.

Well, Mr. or Ms. Pompous Attitude, when did you become a scholar in brain chemicals and such? I'm pretty sure that if it weren't for man made chemicals, such as an antidepressent, I would either be sitting in a closet somewhere with a bottle of booze or dead! I have suffered, yes, suffered, with anxiety/depression all my life, since early childhood. It affected how I saw myself and the world around me. My anxiety got sooo bad, I hated the mere "chore" of leaving my home. My world within myself became sooo dark, I wanted to die. Over the years I abused alcohol, drugs, tried meditation, soul searching, self help books and tapes, legal herbs and illegal, and a psychologist. Mind you, I'm not a kid. I'm in my late 40's. I didn't go see a doctor about it until a couple years ago. My life, in reality was, is.. good. I've got a wonderful marriage, great adult kids, beautiful grandkids, own a home, have my own small business. I wasn't going thru any trauma, hormones were in check, blood work great, and no underlying problem. The psychologist said I simply have a chemical imbalance. Not enough seratonin going to the brain. So, I take one pill daily to correct the problem that has ailed me all these years. I was a skeptic, until I found myself waking up everyday happy to be alive. For the first time ever, I felt truly optimistic. In my family, the mood disorder seems to be hereditary. My mom uses downers and is always miserable. My sister meds with alcohol and meth. My aunt has aluminum foil wallpapering the ceiling of her mobile home, so "they" can't read her thoughts. I take a pill, once a day. Your attitude and views hopefully will have no value to others who may have be suffering too. It could cost them their lives.

Medical research is going on as we speak to get to the bottom of the mental disorder dilemma. Also, lets look at the medication issue in reverse: stands to reason if a medication works then, chances are you have the disorder that it treats. If you take Tylenol and your leg feels better, you must have had pain. Take a antidepressant for a few weeks and you start to feel better doesnt it stand to reason that perhaps you may have been a little depressed? Now, medications arent for everyone and other treatment modalities must be explored and newer, more effective non-pharmacological treatments are being developed and enhanced regularly. As to why you would want to take a medication that would change your state of mind, what if your state of mind was destructive to someone else or yourself? Those are choices that we arent free to make. We cannot get so despondent that we decide we are going to end our life, we do not have that right. Nor do we have the right to do the same for someone else, either through anger or mercy.

You seem to lack education and common sense either that or you're an immature 14 year old who will believe anything. A conspiracy to support pill pushing? Book smarts versus common sense like common sense cures disease. Give me a break. Good luck to you! Stay in school.

Oh and to answer your question, just look at the science behind the medication. Besides, most doctors encourage patients to get psychological counselling in addition to taking medications. The problem is that many patients cannot afford this.

Do some doctors "push" pills? Yes. The ADD/ADHD craze is totally ridiculous, as is the anti-depression and anxiety trend. HOWEVER---to say that NO people have these issues is silly too. In my scant 27 years I have learned something; there are no absolutes. Some people DO benefit from medications. Some people DO indeed suffer from these issues---and if medication is the only thing that has given that person peace, I am certainly not going to judge them.

I do think that the medical field, especially the pharmaceutical aspect of it, is a corrupt institution more concerned with making money than effectively treating patients. However, there ARE plenty of good doctors out there who listen, and who do not recommend pills unless they think it very necessary. In fact, my doctor applauded my use of supplements, herbs, and vitamins, and gave me more information about the ones I was taking. After a length of time though, he did finally recommend medication for my severe anxiety (GAD). We went through many different options and several types of meds until we found one that was effective and that we were both comfortable with. Now, before you judge me or anyone else, doctor or patient, (as you seem hell bent on doing) you should know a few things.

Some people both need and benefit from medications. The Diabetic needs their insulin. The Epileptic needs their anti-seizure meds. In a famous case, Scientology took away an Epileptic's meds and put her on their regimen instead. She died shortly after. Now I am a HUGE advocate for vitamins, meditation, exercise, relaxation and pain techniques, as well as homeopathic & alternative medicine. But that doesn't mean I throw traditional medicine completely out the window and label all doctors as "stupid". Sometimes, with a lot of effort, you can "cure" yourself. Sometimes though, the simple fact is that you need a doctor's help. That's just a fact.

Now I am not saying that ALL doctors are good---of course you have those that try and push anti-biotics for every problem; most people don't realize how strong and dangerous anti-biotics are, and that they should be used rarely, and ONLY for bacterial infections (biotic=bacteria). Some doctors like to claim every hyper or difficult child as having ADD. Some doctors will put a woman who has difficult PMS on an anti-depressant quicker than you can blink an eye. I agree wholeheartedly, that this is B.S. and more people should be aware of it. More people should also be aware of the great benefits of alternative medicines and techniques, and study them---do their own research. Of course, I am NOT a doctor with a degree; I am not a midwife nor a medicine-woman. I am not qualified to treat people, nor tell them what to do. And neither are you. Different things work for different people. Simple as that.

So in answer to your question, no medications are NOT always the answer...however they may be sometimes. It depends on the individual and their medical issues. No one person can know the medical issues and difficulties of every person on the planet. Therefore, I don't believe judging others on your own percieved ideas of what they should or shouldn't be doing, is a great idea, nor a sound one.

#1. [[ Why do people believe that putting man made chemicals into their bodies is the answer to mental health problems? ]]

Because putting man made chemicals have been the answer to nearly every health concern even the common cold. We put chemicals in our body for cancer, bronchitis, high blood preasure and many sicknesses. And whether you would like to believe it or not mental illnesses ARE illnesses the same as cancer, bronchitis, high blood preasure. They are ALL bad things that effect us BADLY that we want fixed.

#2. [[ Why do doctors put these chemicals into our bodies to cover up a problem instead of trying to find the real reason behind them and instead fixing them that way? ]]

I would like to think that most doctors start their paients in therapy sessions to try to work their way through their illnesses and when therapy isn't enough and the paitent's life is still a daily struggle that could lead to mental suicide that he then put's his SICK paient on medication. Some doctors skip the therapy on how bad the mental disorder appears to be. With some mental disorders no amount of therapy will work. How can you get a person who see's flying animals to work their way through their problems? I too would like to imagine and believe that mental illnesses are made-up and just something in everyone's heads.. But the fact is they are true illnesses that are making people live in a puddle of misery and pain. So in your pretty little pink cotton candy world it may be just "made up" but in the real life it's the truth. hard to swallow? Get a pepsi.

#3. [[ Are doctors stupid? ]]

I could never say that any doctor is "stupid" if he were "stupid" I don't understand how he would ever be able to get through school and so many classes. Do doctors make mistakes? Yes... Do some doctors practice medicine better then others? Yes.... Are some stupid? I think not... no maybe they make mistakes or bad choices but not stupid by any means...

#4. [[ Why would you take a medication that alters your state of mind, basically what makes you, you? ]]

Why would someone with high blood preasure take medication that is taking something that is truely them away from them? Or anyone who suffers from sickness. People with mental illnesses are NOT their illnesses. They are the ppl. everyone knew them as b4 their illness hit.

what people don`t seem to understand is that who or what was taking care of us before the existence of the western doctors? before the chemical meds? before all those machine that are suppose to find the problem? and, for how long these two have been existing? relating to ancient and today`s medecin.
in the old time, with the chinese medecin, ayurveda from india, nommo from the dogon ancestors, the meridians from oriental, sephiroth from the 16 century- wich relate to cosmic spheres energy of the kabbalah`s tree of life, chakras is also relating to energy, reflexology. these are all old timer medecin that are natural and that belong to our body, meaning; we are all made up of the same component than mother nature, minerals,water,air,fire-the heat of our body-, vitamins, nutrients, etc... this is the first reason why chemical is just not good for you, different components and our body has a hard time to deal with it, it`s not natural.
also, not only mother nature give to us on a material matters but also on the energy level, something that nobody can actually see but! you feel it, no matter that you`re conscious of it or not. watching television is a good exemple of it, how do you feel when you watch an action or violent movie? or when you do an exciting sport like hockey? we all know about how sometime we can feel depending if someone treated you right or not. angry, sad, desapointed, or good, happy etc..what you feel are emotions right?
and now if you look deeper into these old medecin and even the bible say so, your emotions are something to be delt on regular basic. cause. if not done in a proper way, like communication, these stays inside of you and it eats you up spiritualy, and when it does, that`s when the mental illnesses shows up and other disorders. it`s that simple.
all these medecin that i`m talking about can be check at any time in any books or web sites. and the bible.
i am the proof that these medecin works for your adventage, it`s just a slower process and with today`s society that likes everything fast, it`s your choice.
if you want to be healthy in any way, do this
keep your emotions clean of any bad ones. when you feel bad, you must talk it out and cry it hard too if needed. you can also listen to music or even cut a bunch of wood for help cause these emotions are energies that are inside of you, you must take them out when needed. me i call that doing my laundry, you clean what`s dirty.
and than, eat right for your blood type. your eating habits are also very important. you must be carefull cause your body will win over you.
so it come to say that if you eat right and control your emotions wich by the way they`re both at the same area, you will be happy mentaly and physicaly.
this is the importance for you to understand. we all have a body, spirit and an heart, you must learn to balance all of them together. you just cannot neglect one and think that the other two will be fine. you cannot have a way of thinking that goes this way- my way or the highway- i do what i want- with life. it`s either you learn to live with it and go with the flow or you`re sick. GOD is so clear on that but you can`t see.
GOD is all around you and inside of you, nobody ever thaught that it could be that famous energy.

I understand you are talking about MENTAL health issues. I had bipolar disorder because of a CHEMICAL IMBALANCE.

How do I know this? Because I was perfectly fine and then out of no where HOLY CRAP. I'm diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I was depressed. Then I was manic. That wasn't changing who I was because being depressed and manic wasn't ME. I'm a really outgoing, friendly person, but when I was bipolar, I wasn't any of those.

Drugs shouldn't be the ONLY thing to help with mental illnesses. I went through a lot of therapy and even to this day I keep a journal. I don't do therapy anymore and I don't have to take pills everyday.

And also, psychologists usually will have sessions with you first to see if therapy is all you need. If more needs to be done, then they will refer you to a psychiatrist, who does the medications. They never go STRAIGHT to the pills.
