Either. As I said earlier, Humanism (which I think is what you mean) is serving your fellow humans without regard to reward or merit. There are many humanist groups nationwide engaging in civic activities, from feeding the homeless to planting trees. You can find a group near you at www.meetup.com and you'll find both religious and non-religious humanists.

"A freelancer" - I love that! Yeah, you don't need to be connected to a church to do humanitarian deeds.
