Your governmment should said that 60 years ago when sold Eastern Europeans to Russia, although they fought on the same side. Now you are worried about immigration? How many immigrants left for the US from everywhere? A strong nation, as a strong alive being has to share the genetic inheritance to be strong. You have to learn how to live toghether - to get and to give.

We get less here than other nations. And that includes those in the EU.
Think about all the facts. Really. Think about them.
If you think we have a problem, look at Malta. They are literally being swamped, a quarter of the population arriving illegally by sea every year.
In Spain, around four million have arrived since 2000 (and that includes us Brits).

As far labour is concerned never, they actually rely on the immigrant vote at least in the north.
Local councils here will do anything for the immigrants,
Just to give an idea what Oldham Council ( Labour) is like , if you ring them about anything before they ask your name, the first 2 questions are:
1) religion
2) ethnic race
talk about a racist council

Let's get out of our heads that this is only a problem in England. Other countries in Europe ( and would you believe Portugal too?) have been swamped by people from eastern Europe.
Portugal have had thousands upon thousands of Russians, Ukranias etc. come in to Portugal over the last few years.
Remember that Portugal is a country a quarter of the size of Britain.
I read an article recently about this in Portugal where agencies in Portugal make money out of match-making Portuguese men with Russian and Ukranian women. LOLOL apparently they are having trouble making Portuguese girls wanting to marry men from eastern Europe. They will marry only Portuguese guys.
It is a problem all over Europe. Portuguese have become racists as a result of their reluctance to admit so many people into their country. I go to Portugal regularly and I know.
The Portuguese race (not physical physical appearance alone but customs, tendencies and other Portuguese characteristics which identify Portugal and Portuguese) will be unrecognizable in a couple of decades.
So let's console ourselves that this is not only happening in England. A very good friend of mine (who is Portuguese) said to me recently "THIS ISN'T PORTUGAL ANYMORE !"

I heard that the bus company is right now recruiting abroad as we speak.
The government and big companies are the ones bringing in most immigrants.
Immigrants do the work.

That should have been said a LONG time ago.
To Claire~ No, not much different, but my goodness. That WAS a long time ago, before LAWS and GOVERNMENT and such.
I really think a lot of "pros" need to stop living in the past. It IS 2007.

I would think about 40 million.
That would then satisfy Europe and the Labour Party that Britain no longer existed.

How many of us were allowed to emigrate to other countries before their governments said thats enough. Is that any different?
Edit: There is plenty of room, up here there is hardly any immigration up here. I prefer living in a society where there are different cultures. It brings more tolerance, something which maybe you could do with
Edit: Notgrannysmith - we are still doing it!!!! We emigrate all over the world and expect to be welcomed with opened arms when we have no intention of respecting local traditions etc, much less actually bothering to learn the local language. Have you never been to the Costa Del Sol??????
And governments and laws have been around since ancient times so what are you talking about?
