organic foods are foods that have not had artificial fertilisers and chemicals sprayed on them!
there is no way to distinguish them from non organic foods!
i think we should look at what we eat much closer! look back a few hundred years ago, things like cancer was almost non existent! these chemicals must be at least partly to blame!
and its not only us that should look at what we eat, there should be regulations and guidelines that farmers must follow!
i understand that without the artificial sprays there yield would be lower but they can use natural sprays and funding should be put into research into developing new natural sprays that are more effective!!
i want to have a completely chemical free diet sometime in the future!!

I think we definitely need to take care of what we eat these days. but buying organic foods isn't necessarily the answer. It's true that organic crops have to be grown to a specific standards, but have you wondered what these standards are? and what about organic eggs? and have you wondered why organic foods bought from supermarkets is worse than what you buy from your local farmers' market? and does it really make sense to buy organic oranges or potates which have been grown miles away? A good read is Michael Pollan's book The Omnivore's Dilemma - this should be read by all students before or after watching Gore's documentary.

Yep, we need to be concscious with the food we intake, To be on top of the heap in the food industry, most of the times manufacturers tend to use substitutes to lower down costs. Simply, organic foods are homegrown without the use of commercial fertilizers and insecticides, so without using these commercial products the cost of crops to grow increases and the quantity of produce is lessened, specially if you don't have insecticides to use.

For animals, it means they were reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones. In most countries, organic produce must not be genetically modified.

organic food doesnt contain artificial fertilisers or chemical products whereas normal food contains artificial fertlisers that's maybe why when you go to the shop you will find organic food cost more than normal food it also takes more time to grow its healthier

I often feel to word 'organic' is overused and misused. I go into my local supermarket and find that I can but - at greatly inflated prices - 'organic' eggs and 'organic' milk. Oh yea? So where do I buy the inorganic varieties?
