Cat hoarding is a disease of the mind. The person thinks they are helping the animals by providing a "home" for them. Most of the time they can't afford proper food, vet care, or shelter for their pets and end up with litters of inbred kittens and sick cats. They are not bad people, they just have a mental disorder. Most of the time animal control will allow them to keep a couple of their pets and the rest are taken away for adoption. Exercise control in your cat obsession and realize you can't save the world. Just be happy to be making a difference by donating to shelters, volunteering, and making the lives of a couple of cats of your own happy and healthy.

I was just about to post the same question and then came across this!! I am obsessed with my cat, from the day we got him i worried about him when he first started to venture outside, i worry about him when he's out and about during the day and god forbid if i go away for the weeked all i talk about is him and if he's eating his food etc. I think it is possible to get too attatched to a cat although i dont know why i have because i have an older cat of which i've had since i was 5 and i dont have this same obsession over her! I don't think it hurts unless you begin to plan your life around a cat, its ok to love them, just not to be ruled by them.

I know a "cat lady", I think its great that she loves her cats. but sad at the same time because she misses out on alot of fun cause she has to be home at a certain time, and she wont stay overnight anywhere because she feels no one can look after them like she does.
I think that's obsessive! Revolving your whole life around your pet and stoping yourself from having a life.

Yea, it is totally possible because people (especially really old grandma's/pa's) lose the people in their life, kids move out, husband/wife dies, kids/grandkids move away. The person gets lonely and gets some cats and the cats become her kids. The person would treat the cats like the kids/spouse they are now missing and might even start taking in strays, like how you wouldn't leave someone in your backyard all alone at night.

Yes its possible. I think it happens when people start to substitute the cats for people, looking on the cats at their best friends and far more trustworthy. Then it happens the person would rather stay in with their cats, they let the cats have the total run of the house regardless of damage and hygiene, and so it progresses. So I wouldn't worry about having a strong fondness for your cats, provided it doesn't stop you from getting out there leading your day-to-day life and socialising with other people.

I talk to my cats all the time and they just give me this look... like they think I'm mad. I spoil them rotten, buy them loads of toys and feed them fresh fish.
But I don't care. I love my cats and there is nothing wrong with that.
The ancient egyptians built temples and worshipped cats as gods. No one calls them crazy cat people.

you are able to only have one cat that you ruin like loopy and persons will call you a loopy cat woman. i imagine cats and canine are better companions than maximum folk because the animals love you unconditionally. human beings placed circumstances on their love which isnt honest yet thats how existence is often.

As long as you don't try to f*ck 'em, you'll be ok....
You'd be amazed about how many "cat lovers" are out there... Including myself...
I "meow" to my BF constantly, in forums, MSN, etc....
I am called a kitty by my mom, ex-bf's, etc... So, that gives you an idea of how much of a "cat lover" I am *chuckles*
