It's not about this generation so much as it's about the New Covenant.

If you are trying to know what things are granted to us through the Bible- those who believe in Jesus that is; then yes, pay particular attention to the New Testament FIRST. In saying that, don't be afraid to look around in the Bible, and then there is this:

ASK QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ask plenty of questions. Get a notebook and write them down as you read. Ask them to people who know, get commentaries, a concordance, and keep thinking! Christianity when it's taught right, NEEDS to be questioned! It's not sacreligious to ask questions. And don't rely on only one answer. Get several answers and check people for their background so that you can know where they are coming from.

If you have a mind for this stuff, then do it all!

No, the New Testament is meant to be understood in the context of the Old Testament. The NT a continuation of the same story. There is nothing in the New Testament that makes it more 'applicable' than the old, the same ideas are in both of them.

You should concentrate on whatever parts you need to concentrate on, but both need to be a source of deep study and meditation.

In my opinion the new testament is an anti-jewish text, and the old testament is true. The new testament was written to keep people from following Judaism.

Yes, the o.t. and n.t. is the whole bible, but it is far from holy. All scripture is not in the bible and everything in the bible is not scripture. The do everything exactly as I say or else gospel of the o.t. is incompatable with the kingdom of God gospel of Jesus.

Much of the OT was given to the Israelites as a schoolmaster, sort of like boot camp for juvenile delinquints. This was done because after all the miracles that God did through Moses in delivering them out of slavery, they turned their backs and worshipped the gold calf. Many of the laws of Moses were strict, ritualistic, rigid laws that demanded instant punishments for various sins with no chance to repent. Many of the Laws of Moses were types and shadows of Christ... symbolisms that were to prepare the Jews for the coming of Christ. The Animal Sacrifices were types of the blood of Christ who would atone for the sins of those who repented and accepted Christ.

Once Christ died on the cross all things were fulfilled and the old law was done away. Much of the Law of Christ included some of the old law, but not all of it. Thou shalt do no murder still continues in the new law, along with do not hate. Thou shalt not commit adultery continues in the new law, along with do not lust. Other things such as High Priests, animal sacrifices, circumcision, abstaining from certain meats like pork, the Saturday Sabbath, were all fulfilled and done away with in Christ.

Studying the OT is good in that it helps you understand the NT better, and what Christ fulfilled. Just understand that many aspects of the OT no longer apply to the Christian today.

Gal. 3: 24-25 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

There is a whole lot fo smiting and death penalty and .. don't eat shellfish and .... nonsense in the old testament. I suggest you give it a read and follow your heart. I mean, really, do you want to go out and stone people to death?

Paul wrote that the O.T. is given for our instruction,so accept HIS teaching. Also I went to a Baptst church that taught that (the O.T. is the N.T. concealed & that the N.T. is the O.T. revealed.... That made sense to me. Why not think on it.
