There will be plenty of caution laps which will extend the life of the engine.
Still, you have a point, because the drivers don't let off the gas while racing, they will be running a sustained 9000 rpm or higher. I really can't answer that, it is one of the unknowns of the first CoT Superspeedway race.
We probably will see some blown engines, now that I've "thunk" it out on the keyboard. The unleaded fuel won't help preserve any of them. The Toyotas and the Dodges have been the most vulnerable to failure, while the Chevy's and the Fords have been mostly sturdy. Dale Jr can't lose an engine anymore, or else we'll be up to our elbows in conspiracy theories.
The DEI partnership with RCR for engines may alleviate Jr's past problems.

Its all about how you treat your engine. Have you ever noticed the first guys with engine problems are the Robby Gordon's and Kenny Wallace's and other people like that. They are getting engines from these big teams, and they always seem to F it up... I dont understand why the little teams are always having problems unless their engine people do not know how to take care of the engine.

I think you will see the same number of engine problems that your normaly see. Bottom line is that they are turning 1000 more RMPs than ever before at Dega... but they have turned those kinds of RPMs before at other tracks... If you think about it the RMps are only going to hit that mark towards the end of the straights, and in the draft if you get a really good run... In the corners they will have a break. They cut down the HP in these cars so much that the corners actually bog down the motors and they are not able to keep those kinds of RMPs up just because of the G forces...

And as far as cautions... I dont know if we will see that many... last time they raced here it was a very clean race... now they didnt have the C.O.T. but the C.O.T. is supposed to handle better... but you cant see out of it as well... hmmm I cant wait to see!

9500 or 9700RPM is a pretty good turn for the parts, the only problem with this is valve springs.
Valve springs are the weakest link in any engine and seam to do most of the damage.
If they could come up with a dual overhead cam design then these engines would last considerably longer without the catastrophic failure of valve issues.
I mean really when was the last time you heard of an engine failure from a rod or main bearing.
