Satan tempts everybody .. and even Jesus declared that Satan was "the prince of this world".

It's also likely that Satan never knew for sure exactly who Jesus was ... at least until it was too late.

If Satan had actually believed that Jesus was God, he would have never had his Roman and Jewish minions crucify him.

The only reason why satan had the opportunity to test Jesus Christ is because Jesus Christ was a man in the body here on earth in this world. The world that satan has/had the power to have his way. With Jesus Christ being born into this world, the door was wide open for satan to walk right in and test Jesus Christ.

That Question answers a lot. For instance If Jesus was Almighty God, Satan would have Known that he was losing in just trying to get Jesus to Sin. But if he was a Human like Adam, what was stopping him from trying to tempt Jesus afterall he succeeded in getting Adam on the wrong footing. Satan knew that Jesus was a Man, not man-god or god man... but a Man nonetheless.

Satan is also known as the accuser of the brethren. He is also very powerful and wise.
For a good description of him, read Ezekiel Ch.28:11-19. I never cease to be amazed at the people who state that he doesn't exist. It's people like them who Satan gets the most mileage from as if they don't believe he exists, they are all the more easily manipulated by him

Good question. I think that so long as you are human/flesh and in this world, we cannot rely on our own power against the devil. He is more powerful than us, but powerless to God. Maybe since Christ was "enveloped" in a fleshly body, he was just as vulnerable on His own as we are, but He wasn't on His own, we know that for sure. If only His children (myself included), always looked to God when we are tempted.

I've wondered that also. The only thing I could think was Jesus was in human form with all of our weaknesses and it was the perfect time to test.

Satin tried to trick Jesus but Satin has no power, only if you give him power.

He is given this power by the Almighty to test us.
That is his duty and that's all he can do.
