It would be similar to an over maxed credit card. You should return the credit card but for a fraudulent ID then you definitely have the right to destroy it. If you were the owner of the store report the person to the Police.

You're 3 months away from turning what age? 16? Looking as young as you do security would look EXTRA hard at your ID's. I've bounced at many clubs and bars, and they usually put me at the door because I can spot a fake ID from a mile away. Most places put the best person they have at the door because they can be shut down and lose their license if anyone underage comes in. I'm not saying that you won't get in anywhere. Just probably not anywhere worth getting into. Your best bet would be to go to a place with a big group of people who actually ARE over 21 and have REAL ID's. Then if they question your ID, the whole group will turn around and start to leave, which will quite often make them tell you to just get inside.

Funny you should ask. The restaurant/saloon/casino that I manage just got popped in a sting operation by a undercover cop that was a minor besides. It ends up costing the business 1000 dollars! According to Montana law (the location of our business) You can confiscate any ID that is in question, call the police and have them come and either make an arrest, or verify that the ID is legitimate. As far as the sting method of getting business to comply is Horse Hockey in my book!! It's entrapment any way you look at it!!

And if they aren't, what would you charge them with? LOLOL!!
Seriously, if you tried to buy liquor with fake id, and they didn't confiscate it, they could be liable if you used it at another place, got drunk, and had a car accident. So, any responsible adult is going to take fake id from any kid who tries to use it to buy booze.

And no, it isn't the same as a maxed out credit card, because the credit card is usable as soon as a payment is made or the limit raised. Fake id is just that, FAKE, an illegal representation that you are some person, or some age, or some official, that you aren't.

It may vary from state to state. In Michigan they can. They can also turn the fake id's into the police for a reward.

YES! In some states it is mandatory that they do.

So by taking away your fake id - they are protecting themselves from some HUGE fines.

In Australia I believe they can't take it from you but they can refuse you entry or service. They also have the right to call the police.
