Only a lawyer, CPA, or enrolled agent can represent you in front of the IRS. Of the 3, only enrolled agents have passed a 2 day long compentcy test given by the IRS, and they usually cost less.
It is a very hard test, I had been doing taxes for 15 years and I couldn't pass it the first time I took it.
The easiest way to find one is look in the yellow pages under tax preperation, EAs will advertise there or visit the National Association of Enrolled Agents website

The best way to find a tax preparer is personal recommendation from someone you know well & who has used the prepare for a reasonable period of time (e.g. 5 years).
Tax preparers do not need to be certified, but if someone is an enrolled agent that means they passed a pretty rigorous IRS exam.
CPAs are an excellent choice if they do tax work on a regular basis. Do not use a CPA (or anybody for that matter) who doesn't typically do tax work.

Although another responder downgraded them H&R Block is probably a good place to start. Almost all offices are open year round. They will have the nessasary forms for all of the previous years. As far as training they have to pass a 17 week course before they can be hired and are required to complete 40 hrs of continuing education each year. The average experience level at our office was 7 years even though we were seasonal employees.
It is true that since there is no state tax in FL all you have to do is a 1040-X for each year so you could probably do it your self .

I have worked for HR Block for the past six years. The practice at our office is to match the preparer with the appropriate skill level and experience with the complexity of the return. Generally, an amended return is submitted on a 1040-X. In fact, HR Block offers training on amended returns in the basic course as well as in advanced level courses. The complexity depends, of course, on your income streams. I do several 1040-X 's every year. I think that you would be impressed with the degree of knowledge and expertise that you have at your local HR Block office.

Florida only requires a federal tax. You'll need to do the 1040-X amended return. And that is not really difficult at all, as long as you still have your receipts. Look in the yellow pages of your community. There are lots of people who have more experience that the fly by night clerks at H and R.

You have to file a 1040X and mail it in since it was last years return you are correcting. You cannot put that paperwork with this years return...the IRS tells you to mail the copies separately to avoid any confusion. You can download form 1040X from the IRS website and print it out. That would be the easiest way. It is pretty easy to fill out, we have done one several times in the past few years.

Your phone book yellow pages should have a catagory for accountants. Look for a CPA who does tax work or an enrolled agent.
