talk about freedom of religion. in our schools, we are taught that we evolved from apes. HOWEVER, some people do not belive that. Some dont even want to belive it. evolution is being rammed down our throat. isnt that an obstruction of your right to belief ?
so how about this. how about nothing about our existence is taught, NO creationism, NO evolution?
OR
Both could be taught, and kids get to choose what they want to listen to?

Evolution is not religion. It is not a belief system. It is science, to be taught along with any other scientific subject.
Do people complain that gravity is rammed down their throats? No of course not. Evolution is no different.
If people want their kids to learn creation stories, there are appropriate places for that. Public school is not the place.

I agree with Athee, wholeheartedly. Evolution, theory or otherwise, is a scientific observation. The issue here is not whether evolution should be taught in school, it's science and belongs in science class, it is whether religion (and only one particular relgious view on the topic) is appropriate for public school.
Evolution and Creationism are NOT in the same category and should not be compared in a science class. This is probably the misconception about bringing into the school. Creationism is NOT science.

Creationism is not science.
Did you stop to consider that learning to read and that 2 plus 2 equals 4 were shoved down your throat?
You've been lied to by someone who has you believing there is a controversy. There is not. Ask your doctors how they feel about biological evolution, since they must know and understand it before attending medical school. Or, do you rely on prayer when you're sick or badly injured?
And kids should be taught sound science, not confused by people who fear science upsetting their cozy belief systems.
What's this got to do with my membership in the ACLU, anyway?

* Evolution is every much a fact as the theory of gravity.
* Over 99.8% of scientists in relevant field accept evolution.
* There are no alternative scientific theories.
* There is a huge amount of evidence in support of evolution...
* And zero evidence against it.
* The 'discussion' is actually educated people trying to educate others.
* The more intelligent a person is, the more likely they are to understand and accept evolution.
* The "discussion" only happens in backward places like Turkey and parts of the united states.
Schools should teach science.
Schools should not teach religion.
See how it works?
Isn't teaching gravity "ramming it down the throat" of people who believe in intelligent falling?

Maybe we can teach them math and make believe math as well. I know most of you do not understand evolution, or what the term theory means in science. You also do not really want to learn so I am not going to waste my energy

you have the right to hold any beliefs you choose, within reason. you don't have the right to tell kids that your belief is supported by science, because this one isn't. terribly sorry about that, but reality doesn't seem to want to compromise. what can you do?
well of course you can tell them anything you like in church or in your homes. just not in science classrooms. but oh dear, the little tykes might get suspicious if they get two different stories. heck, they might even learn something! can't have that now, can we...
