My cat is 13 years old, but in good condition before this happened. I recently acquired two kittens from the animal shelter- BIG MISTAKE, I know now! They had been cleared for adoption after almost dying themselves from this stupid virus! My baby became ill with it about a week ago. I promptly took him to the vet, and after trying forced feeding for a couple of days, she recommended tube feeding which I agreed to doing. It's been 3 days now, and he's no better at all. He's VERY lethargic and responds when I talk to him with a very weak "meow". It's been 9 days now since the onset. Is it time to give up, or do these things take a long time to resolve? I can't seem to get my vet to give me any specifics. I've looked up practically every source on the net for info, but it's vague. Mose sources say allow 1 to 2 weeks for recovery, but I'm getting very impatient now to see some sign of improvement. PLEASE HELP!

I'd give him a little longer.
Remember that elderly pets (13 is elderly for cats) take a little longer to respond to treatment and heal.
As long as he isn't suffering, I think you should give him another 2-3 days. You should see an improvement by then, or have more test run.
It could be coincedential that you got the kittens at the same time he started suffering from some other disease. (like cancer, heart/kidney failure, etc.) Get blood work done. It's inexpensive, and gives an "overview" of the cat's organ function and health.

Also, it might be a matter of getting different/stronger drugs.

Good luck to you.

I had a cat with this once, and I had to force feed her for about 2 weeks, baby food,NutriCal,kitten milk, etc. She couldn't smell, because her nose was stuffy, and when cats can't smell, they won't eat. Also, the ulcers are sore. What medication is the cat taking? There is a Lysine supplement that helps a lot. It's in a gel form, called "Viralys."Since your cat is being tube fed,you know it's getting the nutrients it needs.I would try the Viralys and give the cat some time.If the cat is in otherwise good health, then he has a fighting chance.

Sorry, toddler! I even have lost 3 cats with a similar component. The vet is conscious there is not any longer probability, yet he tells you he ought to have the potential to shop your cat. it fairly is stealing your money. The vet is conscious the 2d he looks at your cat. there is not any longer of venture in hell that the cat will stay. yet he tells you he is going to shop your cat, and evey day provides yet another technique and extra $$$. I did a similar component whilst my cats come down with this. I advised the vet to do each and every thing he ought to. yet after approximately $a million,2 hundred money he stated as me and suggested my cat died. For all i understand the cat could have been ineffective for days. I even have researched this or maybe made formal lawsuits to the State Of Michigan. there became a appropriate analyze in this. The State of Michigan has no regulation approximately how a vet practices. In Michigan a vet isn't in charge for the dying of an animal, no depend how negligent they're. i understand for a actuality that your vet knew there became no longer probability to shop your cat. they simply pretended to scouse borrow your money. i'm very sorry to your loss. I nonetheless cry whilst i think of of the buddies I even have lost. yet i understand what's happening, having been by it thrice. i myself watch my cats eating habitual. Being very careful of what they consume. A neutered male has the suitable probability of having a urinary an infection and demise. i'm so sorry. i visit declare a prayer for you. Sorry, toddler!
