Punishment is only for those who commit sin and be proud for it and be ready to further promote it. Like Satan refused to bow Adam and was proud, never felt guilty of it.
Opposite to that, when Adam pbuh committed a sin, was regretted and seek forgiveness of Allah swt. was pardoned.

All sins can be absolutely washed away through the sacrament of reconciliation, allowing one to escape God's wrath, but the temporal consequences of those sins remain.

If you kill somebody, you can receive absolution, and you won't got o hell for it, but that doesn't bring back the dead person, or restore what has been lost to his family, his friends, and the world.

Catholics understand that Purgatory is God's way of helping people to atone for the indirect consequences of these already forgiven sins.

We just don't know exactly by what specific process that will be accomplished.

There is no sin. It is also an offense to an all loving and all merciful God to think that God would make or allow a hell or any form of eternal suffering. There is eternal life for all with eternal progression of learning and experiencing leading to Godhood. All children can grow up to become like their Parents.
