I left home at noon yesterday to go to the bus station. Arrive in Boston at 7:30 pm. The train station is just a couple hundred feet away, but the train doesn't leave until noon today. It will take three days to get to Portland Oregon. I could have been there hours ago for almost the same price, but its raining there and I'm in no rush.

Only you know the value of your time. I'd rather relax on the train, if I have the time to spare.

And, it is always raining in Portland...

So take a book, some magazines with you, enjoy the scenery you are travelling through, enjoy chatting with people. And you can move in the train instead of being in an crowded plane or bus.
