This is going to seem strange coming from me because I am Christian... but I have to honestly say that people claiming to be Christians (some really are and some aren't) do so much damage to our own cause. It is us, more so than atheists (or anyone else for that matter) that create a lot of turmoil. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of atheists that look down on Christianity because they rely so much on science or their own intelligence and that is definitely misguided but not necessarily rooted in hate. So let's unpack this question a little... you are asking why atheists hate Christians. So, let's, just for a moment, say it's true that they hate us. One reason would be because persecution WILL come to those who profess that Jesus is the only Way. Another reason would be because we seem to always want to tell atheists the "rules" of life and say that we find backing for them in the Bible. However, I do not believe that in general atheists hate Christians. I believe atheists have been a bit repulsed by things done under the label of Christianity. I encourage you to not fuel the fire with loaded questions that assume to cover all people in a group. Here's the thing, as Christians, we shouldn't be pointing fingers at others - we should simply point to the beauty of the cross - Jesus. Lose the assuming, lose the shoulds and should nots and show people you encounter Jesus. That is going to require a lot less condemnation and a lot more love. MANY BLESSINGS! <3

While I'm not an Atheist... I'm good at presenting the other point of view.
It's primarily because of preaching. Christians feel the need to spread the word of God. They think it's the RIGHT thing to do. The problem is, some folks get too preachy and lapse into "if you don't take Jesus Christ into your heart, you're going straight to Hell!"
Atheists generally think this point of view is prevalent amongst Christians, and thus equate preaching with "threatening". It's also partly because Atheists believe that only stupid people by into religion, because one must be stupid to accept that an invisible man in the sky will save you when you die.
In general, Atheists despise faith, and any attempt to spread faith. They want you to accept that they may or may not be at peace with their decision, and do not believe you have any right to tell them what to do with their life or afterlife.

I happen to be a believer and quite frankly am irritated by any member of either side that uses name calling, insults or other childish tactics to prove that their way is the right way, the only way or the only choice.
I see both sides do it, guilt in both camps and neither hating the other as a group but both opinions containing people that can't seem to live with someone else's choices.
KWX - for example. Why do you find a need to mud-sling? Your post is precisely what I'm talking about and a good example of insulting and some unhealthy need to belittle the other side.
No one in this country is forced to believe anything so what is the argument?
Let each celebrate his or her life in their own way. I have no argument with anyone who is respectful and tolerant of another's opinion. I don't have to argue about it or feel any need to defend myself. And I feel no need to convert anyone.
I don't preach to those that don't ask for information nor do I ever defend my own beliefs to one who has no desire to hear it.
It's individual people that need to grow up, to stop trying to prove or disprove something to someone who doesn't care to hear it and isn't open to it. It's a waste of energy and pointless.
Isn't it great to live in a country where we can each choose our own way? Why not celebrate THAT rather than tear each other down?

I don't hate Christians, or believers of any faith. I don't care what others believe. I have reasons to dislike other people that have nothing to do with their faiths.
I am, however, getting a little sick of being told I am foolish, ignorant, or "just need to have an open mind" by believers. I'm getting really tired of religionists attempting to get their biblical fairy tales taught as scientific facts in publicly funded schools. I 'm getting really tired of the efforts to get Bronze Age myths turned into laws. I'm tired of religious dolts being elected to high office strictly because they're religious dolts. Maybe it's time to elect a scholarly agnostic or atheist, someone who has no religious agendas. Maybe we'd actually get something done.
So no, I don't hate believers. I just wish they'd get out of politics, and stop saying only their religion can "save our country."

I have an objection.
Not all Atheists hate Christians.
There's a difference between not believing in something and being Anti-Something.
Not all Atheists are Anti-Christian. Not all Anti-Christians are Atheists.

I'm on the fence between being an atheist, and being agnostic. I don't think anyone hates Christians. Atheists should know more than anyone- that we should be free to hold our own faith, in anything. You don't have to believe what I do, or vice versa- but you should respect it. Remember- the Bible can be interpreted in so many ways- why should anyone be criticized or disliked for the way their culture, or family has taught them to interpret it?

Why do you think atheists hate Christians? This is Yahoo! Answers, which does not necessarily reflect the real world.
Christians attack atheists here just as much as atheists attack Christians.
