My friend and i made a religion called "Shaynentology" about this fat kid who goes to our school. It's so funny and he likes butter and swims in his butter pool. The rule is simple... worship the giant butter tub!

A band of energy beings felt a need for a physical plane to learn stuff. They collectively used their energy to create an existence where they wouldn't be so intermingled - they encased themselves in very complicated bodies, designed to heal themselves with the right techniques. They wanted to learn what it was like to be an individual instead of a component in a group. They wanted to learn about sensation and relationships and the nature of the inidividual.
So they created an arena - a planet that turns (so a large population of them would constantly be in sunlight and therefore awake to maintain the illusion non-stop). They picked whatever they wanted to do - did they want to start at the beginning of time or did they want to jump in the middle and give a long history explaining what had happened before.
The important part of the plan, of course, is making the individual forget that they are really just an energy being (part of a great collective, capable of creating worlds) playing at being human - for if they remembered their own all powerful state, it would ruin the game and everyone would have to go home early.
