ive been a server for quite a long time, and you have a point here, whether others want to acknowledge it or not.
i have waited on everyone from major politicians, celebrities, special interest groups to the average joe and their families.
how to put this now....
just as you have people from minority groups on here that demand reparation for how their ancestors were treated during slavery, i have had groups like that to wait on. they have me running like crazy, unreasonable requests that i did with a smile that never broke,,,i could go on. and then at the end, no tip. this has happened on more than one occasion. one of my fellow servers (who is black and very good friend) just smiled at me and said that her grandmother was that way. it gave her a feeling of power. its just how it is, she said.
you could also say that young adults, cranky old white women, rural people,,,etc dont tip either. and to a certain extent its true.
i have serving experiences with teenagers, senior citizens, minority groups, my own peer group,,,,they each have unique qualities and quirks.
everyone is acting holier than thou towards this question and we all know thats not the truth, or this country wouldnt have as many problems as it has.

I've worked as a waitress for numerous years... and as much as we, as a society, hate to admit it ... there are certain groups that don't tip. The reason for it? ... a large number of factors need to be taken into consideration, number one being income. It's a fact that certain races are STILL very low-income, when compared to other races. This may be due to lack of education, lack of work ... due to where they live, among other numerous factors.

If people don't tip, it's not always because they don't want to ... it may be because they can't afford it. They may be able to afford a treat, such a night out and away from the kitchen .. and may have been able to do so by careful money management. You may be thinking ... then why can't they save up an extra $5.00 for a tip? .. but, some don't understand, that $5.00 tip may mean one less supper, for that month.

If tipping is optional and not compulsory,then surely African Americans are just exercising a right [not to tip].

I used to think there was no such thing as a stupid question, but I've been proven wrong yet again. I've done my time waiting tables and I found no one tipped or did not tip me because of the color of their skin. The tips were based on my quality of service.

As caucasion, I apologize. Really, we're not all buffoons.

Could be your attitude , service or both. Remember a tip is for service above and beyond what is expected. It is not a mandatory fee.
