Do you have ANY evidence that we're not the first? And so far the only?

We have the technology to detect planets with our general level of radio emissions at geenormous distances. Earth is so bright in the radio spectrum because of all the rf jazz we use for telecom that Sol would appear to an outside observer to be a binary consisting of a Type G star and a dark companion radio pulsar. Thisis how you find communuicating societies, NOT by mysteriously decoding a patterned signal from outer space, but by looking for the signture of a Main Sequence Star that pulses regularly in the radio spectrum.

Project Seti distances are on the order of 10^9 light years. Given the volume we're talking (yo, we're talking more GALAXIES than there are grains of sand on all the beaches on planet Earth) we should be hearing at least a few, one even, "communicating society."

Instead nada, zilch, the big bupkes.

We might very well be alone.

Isn't it astounding that you genuinely believe that? Neither of our brains can grasp just how DISTANT two points that are 78 billion light-years apart actually are, but suffice it to say that on that scale you and I are just droplets of water in an ocean that itself is a droplet in an ocean that in itself is etc etc ad infinitum. You and I both are tiny on an unimaginable scale. And yet you think that you and our kind are the center of it. What ego. Where do you get the silly idea that you're that important? I assure you that neither of us are. All we are and do will pass into dust and memory until there's not even that anymore. The universe, from one 'end' to the other, will grind on.

Why do you have such faith that other civilizations exist?

There isn't any evidence that they exist, so I have no reason to believe that they do.

The possibility exists that there are no others, so attaching emotions like "arrogant" and "conceited" to acknowledging the scientific fact that without evidence there is no reason to believe is inherently UN scientific.

I wonder how many times the universe has been brought into existence, and no life existed anywhere, never mind intelligent life.

Just because you're here doesn't mean you're not special.

:O

Yes.

Isn't it nice that God gave you a body to carry your brain around in even though you don't really need it to be conscious and alive? Why didn't we just be given consciousness? Isn't consciousness enough without the burdens of this world? Wouldn't it be better if we could just relate spiritually without all of the baggage of the desires of our flesh?

Why is this world so "big"? We don't really need the world, do we?

When you look at the universe, what do you see?

When you look at yourself, what do you see?

Which is greater?

I don't know.. with a full appreciation of causality, were there indeed a God, then eventually 78 billion light years of space might be the perfect amount of space we will eventually need a hundred billion years from now.
Who knows these things?
For the most part, though, I think that sort of belief is inherently conceited.

Dude you should be published in a journal or something since you know the width of the universe.

Wait a minute, are you God?

It wasn't just for us. God created Earth so we can be used as food during the impending colonization by the Choclodites from the Abell 1835 IR1916 galaxy.

What are you talking about? The known universe has a width of 156 billion light years... The entire universe is probably bigger than we can imagine. I think it's idiotic to think that we are the only intelligent life in our galaxy let alone in the entire universe.

God created the universe with the appearance of *that* size so that scoffers like you could chose to either believe His truth or Satan's lies!

There are aliens that know about Jesus too.

I believe that the universe isn't just for us.
