If you are a Christian and someone - say a Jehovah's Witness - tries to witness to you, do you wonder why they are trying to witness to you?? I mean, do Jehovah's witnesses think they have something that you may be missing in terms of salvation or are they just trying to make sure no one slips under the radar?

I speak truth - thank you for your sincere insight, but I was wondering if you could speak to me in personal terms instead of giving Bible references. I already have those.

Contrary to popular belief, contrary to the myths, urban legends, misunderstandings, and lies, Jehovah's Witnesses do not "witness" because they have to "convert" a certain number of people in order to get into heaven. Neither do they "witness" because they feel they are better than others or because they believe salvation comes through "works."
It is quite simple really: Jehovah's Witnesses witness to the good news of God's kingdom in obedience to the commission Jesus gave his followers. Good news of God's kingdom? Yes, Christ himself said that this good news of the kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth for a "witness" to all the nations and then the end would come. You may read this at Matthew 24:14.
You may also read at Luke 8:1-3, Luke 9:1-3, and Luke 10:1-2 how Jesus himself carried out this work and trained his followers to do the same. Why, at Luke 10 you read that he sent them out two by two. Sound familiar?
Moreover, you may read at Acts 5:42 that the disciples carried out their preaching work "every day and from house to house." Paul also preached and taught from house to house as Acts 20:20 reports.
The truth is that this work was carried out by Jesus and all of his disciples and it is the work he commissioned them to do at Matthew 28:18-19. It is a disciple-making work.
Jehovah's Witnesses sincerely believe that they have the good news of God's kingdom that both God and Christ Jesus want you to hear. They endeavor to share it with everyone. It may be that many are totally unfamiliar with the Bible accounts above, it may be that some pretend the disciples did not do this work. Some feel better believing that Witnesses are a cult; that they are trying to win "points" and that they are trying to "get into heaven by works." Nothing could be further from the truth.
I hope this helps you better understand the work that Witnesses have been carrying out now for over 100 years.

Some Jehovah's Witnesses need to learn a little respect for others and learn to know when to back off.
I posted a question asking about what I should do for my 21st birthday, saying I was raised as Jehovah's Witness and didn't really know how to throw a birthday party. Some JW answered by saying "Just a thought, return to your Christian roots. Couldn't resist.."
They ask for respect and tolerance toward them, yet push their beliefs down everyone elses throats. That's not right.
They preach to everyone who is not a Jehovah's Witness, because they believe that all atheists, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, agnostics, Protestants, Mormons...anyone who is not a Jehovah's Witness, are ultimately servants of Satan. They assume the right to convert everyone to their 'one true path'.
I find this highly disrespectful.

In times of disasters, you have those fleeing for their lives, while others just stand there in a daze.
It would be very unloving for those running to totally ignore those just standing waiting to die, even when those people aren't even aware of the danger they are in.
From our study of the bible we have found that many do not understand the danger they are in.
Thus we go to everyone to share what the bible calls 'The Good News of the Kingdom'.
Not only does this Good News include salvation for many, it also includes death for those who do not know God, and for those who do not obey.
When a Jehovah's Witness knocks on you door it is not because we are trying to earn salvation.
It is because we love you and do not want you to be destroyed in the comming Battle.

Jehovah Witness do not believe in the diety of Jesus. That's where they think christians are missing it. This is what they want to "enlighten" us on.

I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I talk with ANY, well most, who wish it. (There are some creeps in this world)
I do it because clearly I believe my beliefs are correct, or else I wouldn't be one, Right?
I also do it because I am commanded to in the Bible by Jesus.

JWs are a cult. They are not allowed to read the bible on it's own it must be read with their magazines. The reason they witness is because a) they think they are the only true religion and every other one is false. b) they are required to witness door to door or they can't move up the jw ranks. They don't believe in charity work ie helping the homeless etc so door knocking to them is their charity work.

I have wondered that myself.
Their idea of salvation is based on works though- if you are not going door to door, if you are observing birthdays and Christmas and Easter, if you are not following 'their' laws, then you could not possibly be saved- though they do not believe we will live in heaven but on the new earth- so if you are not doing it their way , no matter what you call yourself , you wont be there- I still have not figured out why, if they are so obedient to the Bible, why they do not observe the feasts appointed by God and Sabbath.
Basically , it is works based and if you are not doing their works you aren't cutting it

Every religion has certain beliefs right about God and every religion has certain beliefs wrong about God. That's where you have to do a lot of research to gain the knowledge to make a intelligent decision on which religion comes closest to God's message for mankind to follow. Or like me who now thinks all religions are wrong and my personal belief about God is right.
