Real caviar is not "extremely salty". Real caviar is almost impossible to get nowadays.
What you see, mostly in "gourmet shops", is some kind of fish eggs coloured black.
Back in the 70's, I lived for 2 years in Iran when it still was called Persia and the man in power was the Shah.
We had an appartment there and, when throwing a party, we ate real caviar. It cost about US$ 10.00 a pound then and we ate it with a spoon straight from the tin accompanied by pink Iranian Vodka.
Those were times that'll never, never come back.
