Because your brother is a male so he understand how males think. For the most part we only want one thing. And at the age of 16, thats all we want. Don't be mad at your brother for trying to protect you from that... Its natural. But if youre going to do it anyway tell your brother to just tell you how guys are and how to avoid certain types. Atleast he'd feel like youre trying to listen.

Brothers are overprotective, because they don't want some player to take their sister's virginity. Remember, your brother is operating on CroMagnon brain, where everything revolves around sex. He can't fathom that some other guy is putting moves on his sister, like he's putting moves on somebody else's sister/daughter/cousin. He will get another case of overprotectiveness when he is a father, and his sweet little daughter brings her first boyfriend home. Eventually, he will chill out, but let him know you are in control of your life, and it's not his job to be your watchdog. Unless the boyfriend breaks your heart--then your brother is allowed to break his face. Even younger brothers pull this type of protective oversight. Good Luck, and watch your back. All guys are dogs. Some are loyal, and others just want to hump your leg.

Sometimes I think its genetics, I feel like the brothers feel they have to protect their sisters from the big bad that is out in this world. I actually have two younger brothers and they use to stalk my boyfriends, wrestling with them. They just wanted the boys to know that if they hurt their sister they would and could take care of him.
Your brother loves you and he remembers what he was like at that age. He knows that most boys are ususally out for one thing especially at 16. Your boyfriend may be a really stand up guy and a gentleman but your brother isn't going to ever totally trust him with his little sister.
My brothers wanted to beat my youngest sisters husband to be up, and he never didn't anything toward her. They just didn't think our sister nessa should have been gettting married at age 18.
so give your brother a little bit of a break and he will come around as he sees your boyfriend is okay. And if your wrong and your big brother is right just know he will take care of the guy.

I don't have a little sister but i do have a friend who wishes she had an older brother and i wish i had a little sister...and i'm the same with her...i just love her too much to see her get hurt...even though you say your brother don't know your boyfriend...he just says that because he loves you...he just doesn't want you to get into something wrong and stupid...even if you think that's not gonna happen, you never know...it's just brotherly love...you should appreciate it...and the fact that he had girlfriends at your age is basically prolly why he doesn't want you to have a relationship at this age...you have to go through it to experience how it is...apparently he has and it's not a good thing...he's just lookin' out for you...be thankful for your older brother...

Over protective is no good neither seeing your hanging out with your boyfriend to often is good lol...Tell your brother that you need freedom and you shall use that freedom wisely. Other wise if you don't big conflict can happens by both side, which means overprotective make you hated things or if you have too much freedoms you will do anything that might cause somekind of disgrace to your family which your brother might blame you for not listening to him ;)

It's probably because they know better than you how boys that age act in a locker room or hanging around with other guys and bragging about what they have done or are going to do to/with a girl, even if it's not true.
And your brother is trying to prevent a guy treating you like that.
Be thankful you have a brother that will look out for you.
btw -- I think 14 is too young to have a boyfriend...

All over my brothers are like that, except one. I have this one brother that does anything in his power to hurt. So be glad that theyare overprotective. You could have what I have for a so called brother.(He is jealous of me and he's the oldest. He is 33, he has me by 6 years.

I have a younger sister. He doesnt want to see you get hurt, because as a boy, he knows what boys want. He doesnt want to see you date someone who might just like you for your "assets", so dont get too mad at him. It is much much better that he cares than if he didnt at all and never cared who what happened in your life.
