I had been at work for the past 12 hours, went out to my van, and someone had sideswiped it very badly. The driver who did this left no note, did not tell security what happened, basically hit it and ran. I went to the security desk to see if they had captured it on camera, and of course, the camera could not read the license plate of the other car because of the camera angle, and it is not in color, so we have no leads on whose SUV it was. There are atleast 100 other people who work here who own this model of SUV. The security officer suggested I contact my insurance to get it fixed, but unless I am mistaken, I was parked on a private lot on private property. Isn't the property owner responsible for the well being of every car in the lot?

I forgot to mention that the lot is by a public park, and anytime anyone in the entire city wants to turn around, they do so in our lot. I did not fill out any disclaimer, nor is there a sign posted, or anything in the employee handbook that my employer is not responsible for accidents in their lot.

My guess is that your employer has a sign or had you sign some letter when you hired in that stated that they are not responsible for any damage to your car while you are parked on their premises. It is park at your own risk. Call your insurance company and file the claim, I would also take a look at all the other SUV's in the parking lot and see if any of them have your paint on their bumper or sheet metal. Then you know who it was, and can act accordingly as you choose.

good luck.

They are not responsible for any damages, or loss to property in the parking lot, unless caused by there own doing. Such as fire, etc.. It would be covered under you coll ded, as a hit and run, and make sure to file a self accident report, because the police wont come out for private property accidents. Otherwise your rates will go up, cuz the insurance company will look at is a one car accident.. A security report will also suffice.. Good Luck..

not if they have it posted or in their guideline they are not responsible for personal effects or damage to cars in the parking lot. I would suggest you contact your insurance and see if they could cover it under unisured motorist or collison but let them know your job has a copy of the tape with the incident and maybe they won't charge your rates. bon chance, I hope it works out for you.
