I'd think the "perfect word of God" would live up to it's claim. But The Bible is loaded with brazen contradiction and it reads like it was written by a few 1000, half-literate enthusiasts.

No?

Well let's see...OH! I got one. If God is a loving god as he claims, why did he kill a bunch of children as stated in Kings, 2:23-24. That seems like a pretty obvious contradiction to me. Or is killing children how God shows his love? I know he works in strange ways (man that 1 is really strange).

Since your other question was answered, let me answer your "contradiction"

"Well let's see...OH! I got one. If God is a loving god as he claims, why did he kill a bunch of children as stated in Kings, 2:23-24. That seems like a pretty obvious contradiction to me. Or is killing children how God shows his love? I know he works in strange ways (man that 1 is really strange)"

Here are the actual verses: 2Ki 2:23-24 (about Elisha)
23. Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!"
24. When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two lads of their number.

1) I didn't know that God was a pair of female bears. That's what killed the children, according to scripture. Are you a she-bear-worshiper?
2) Well, I'm still looking for a contradiction. Do you think 2 she-bears could not have killed some children?
3) It is *not* impossible that killing a child is a demonstration of God's love. Consider this possibility (just a possibility): God knows everyone's future. He knows that if a certain Christian child lives to be 16, a catastrophic event will cause that child to become a drug addict and lose faith in God. Presumably, God might kill that child prior to this event, thus ensuring their everlasting life in paradise.

So, can you say with certainty that it would be wrong for God to kill a specific child? *I* can't.

The Word doesn't contradict itself. It is the inspired, God-breathed, perfect word of God. There are different perspectives written by different men, but you are mistaken that it contains any imperfections. Good luck in your Bible study!

No. It does NOT read "like it was written by a few 1000, half-literate enthusiasts," and those "imperfectins" habe nothing to do with God's being perfect.

The only thing that is correct in your assertion is that God did not write the Bible.
PEOPLE did. People are not perfect.

where does everybody get this idea that the Bible is so full of imperfections? I would like for you to name me some of those 'imperfections'. Sounds to me like you're just parroting what you've 'heard' someone else say, rather than finding all those imperfections yourself.

Those 'children' He supposedly killed were young men, not irresponsible youngsters. They were challenging Elisha's prophetic office. They were in effect cursing Elisha, who was God's prophet. That would be like threatening the president with a gun. You'd probably be killed too, by the secret service.

No, you are wrong. I doubt you've read much of it, just heard this regurgitated by professors.

The book "When Critics Ask" by Norma Geisler should answer all of your questions about supposed contradictions. Most of these are just the ignorance of non-believers.

Also, "The Case for Christ" by Lee Stroebel would be good, along with "Evidence that Demand a Verdict" by Josh McDowell. Both of these were written by former atheists who set out to disprove Christianity.

Because man could not create god but man could create the bible.
God came first, then man came, then bible came.
It was definitely written at a conference of bishops who agreed to the original version - then came the king James' version.

How did God sense as he surveyed the depravity and the violence in the worldwide? “Jehovah felt regrets that he had made adult males in the earth,” says the Bible, “and he felt harm at his coronary heart.” (Genesis 6:5, 6, 11, 12) God felt regrets in that the [habit of people had grow to be so evil] that he had a transformation of physique of strategies as regards the depraved pre-Flood technology. because of the fact of his displeasure over their wickedness, God grew to become from the physique of strategies of the author of people to that of a destroyer of them. yet, “he grew to become into merciful; he would conceal the errors and not carry wreck. and a great form of situations he made his anger turn decrease back, and he does not rouse up all his rage.” (Psalm seventy 8:38-40-one) even however the rebellious Israelites rightly suffered the ends up of their very own sinfulness, the Bible tells us that “throughout the time of all their misery it grew to become into distressing to [God].”—Isaiah sixty 3:9.

The bible was written by people that had contact with Jesus and God. It was not written by God or Jesus. The bible is not important, as long as you have strong faith and have good judgement God will take care of you.

Both god and the bible were created by people and people make some pretty big mistakes sometimes.
