Can someone summarize this for me??

I am reading," Religion In American" Chapter 5 "The Republic and the Churches" I am not not understanding this, if someone has read this or knows about this can you please summarize this for me in detail, because I can not make heads or tales of it.

Sorry, I have not read this. If you recommend it, I will give it a shot and see if I can understand chapter 5. Some writers are so intelligent that they have to let you know by making their writings hard to understand.
