One reader suggested benzodent...this is a numbing agent. It will not cure anything. Look for Amolsan (by Oral B) or Peroxyl (by Colgate). Amolsan is like alka-selzter, you dissolve it in hot water and swish. Peroxyl is just a diluted hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse. Both are oxygenating agents and that's what you need to heal the gums.

None of this will solve the problem though. It sounds like you need a soft reline. These are expensive (around $~300). They do make over-the-counter relines, but they are temporary and not as affective as the ones your dentist can do.

Also, you should be taking your dentures out at night. You MUST give your gums a chance to "breathe" and "rest". If you don't you could get a fungal infection in your mouth. (Looks like white patches.) I see this all the time. Also, always keep your dentures in water at night (or some Efferdent solution or like product), otherwise they will dry out and shrink.

If this is a new denture, then call your dentist for an adjustment.

I hope this helps.

How To Treat Sore Gums

2016-09-28 05:02:40 · answer #6 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Hi,
I presume these are new dentures. If thats the case, then they need to be adjusted, new dentures have to be worn for a whole day before they can be adjusted to suit you right. Contact your dentist and it can be taken care of. In the meantime refrain from hot, spicy and hard foods. Eat soft food and apply an OTC antiseptic/anesthetic like Orajel to the sore spots and it should help. Gargle with warm saline water.

You should go back to see your dentist. You're denture is probably not fitting properly. Are they new? It's usually recommended that you go back to see the dentist anywhere from 6 months to a year to have a "reline". It might also need an adjustment that your dentist can do right there in office due to hard or sharp edges.

First make a dilute solution of 3% percent hydrogen peroxide (half a dixie cup of water and a cap full of peroxide), swish it in your mouth until it foams or tingles. This will clean and disinfect the cuts in your gums to prevent infection. Then spit out the peroxide and rinse it out of your mouth by swishing water. Then apply some ambesol afterwords to relieve the pain and cause numbness. Trust me it works real well.

sounds like your dentures are not fitting very well, you need to go to your dentist and have a new set made or have your current set adjusted.
to help your gums heal rinse with salty warm water and try using diflam mouthwash (you can get this on perscription from your dentist).
dont suffer in silence tho, go see your dentist asap.
hope this helps :]
