Modern cremation is somewhat comparable to the actions of the men of Jabesh-gilead after they rescued the bodies of King Saul and his sons from the Philistines. They took the bodies to “Jabesh and burned them there. Then they took their bones and buried them.” (1 Sam. 31:12, 13) Nowhere does the Bible condemn cremation.

However, because of acquired traditions, some groups of people cremate bodies because of their beliefs. Because of this, a Christian living in these areas may not want to cremate someone if it will make the neighbors think that he/she believes in the local traditions over what the Bible teaches about the immortality of the soul (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10) Either way, it is a conscious decision since the Bible does not condemn it.

Unfortunately, I have a parent who opposes cremation, birth control, and organ transplantation.

Let me explain: She believes that the rapture will somehow result in the resurrection of the body. She thinks that it will be ungodly to mess with the body in any way, including by the donation of organs. I've tried explaining that even in the confines of this belief, the atoms in her body will not stay the same and decomposition will occur. She still sticks by this belief.

I support cremation and want it for myself. My mother feels the same way. I would like my ashes scattered in various places that meant something to me throughout my life. I think that being buried in a plot where my family will move away and never come to visit is sad.

Yes, I oppose cremation, because I was born to believe in body burials.

The Catholic church for years banned cremation, now it's excepted..as long as the ENTIRE body is buried. Not to be thrown at sea or part of the remains kept in an urn on the mantle.
Why they banned it I'm not sure, only under the conditions I already stated..it's accepted now,

I don't believe there is anything in the Bible against it, and I don't see a problem with it either. (The Bible even says "ashes to ashes, dust to dust".) I think it's wasting space and money to be buried in an expensive casket. My husband and I are already planning on being cremated (after all our organs are harvested) and buried in the same plot.

I would ask the Christians in heaven who were burned at the stake. They will tell you that everything turned out OK.

I don't, when you die the body is just a shell, treat it as such.
