Do you start counting from when you ask them out or when you go on your first date?

I only ask this because I asked her to be my girlfriend and then we went on a date a week later.

I think you can count from the day she said she'd be your girlfriend. But you'll always remember that first real 'date' too. You can do something simple like a single flower (rose, carnation, etc.) on each month anniversary; or something memorable like that, if she's the kind of gal that's hopelessly romantic. Good luck to you!
