Nobody has ever 'ascended into heaven'. At the time those stories were written, it was believed that all that existed in the universe were heaven and the earth. Virtually everybody in that region, at that time (except for a few Greeks, and for some assorted people who had been educated by them), believed that the sky was a solid object (the firmament) that seperated heaven from earth... so heaven was 'on the other side of the sky'.
If heaven was on the 'other side of the sky', then it would presumeably be possible for ignorant, uneducated and superstitious people to believe that somebody could magically be sucked up to dwell with the entities who lived 'on the other side of the sky'. Today, is clear that such an idea is clearly nonsensical... or, at least it SHOULD be clear...
Anybody who believes that people 'ascended into heaven'... or even that 'heaven' exists... is a complete idiot. Sadly, that seems to apply to 85%+ of the population of the USA.
The knowledge that we have today about the solar system and the universe puts the 'lie' to those stories. It is proof-positive that those stories were just made-up.
Further, it is good reason to be highly suspicious of any belief system that insists that those stories are 'true'. Any organization which insists that obvious fabrications (er... lies) are TRUE is, by definition, LYING.
Why would anyone make obvious lies... or anything that 'depends' from those lies... a central theme in their view of the world, or the filters through which they evaluate information?
This is a part of the reason that rational, critically-thinking people say Christians are 'delusional'... they 'believe' obvious lies and impossibilities, and accept them as valid aspects of reality.

HARK! The Kingdom is at hand.
The kingdom is within.
The Kingdom is spread out before men and they do not see.
The only moment you ever have is the present.
Diety, reality and being have only one thing in common. They all exist in the present moment.
I AM the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning of my next moment begins with what I think, believe and how certain I am of those two and how they conflict or exist in harmony. The end (which is this present moment) is the result of all past thoughts and beliefs. If the past thoughs have been harmonious then my current state is in harmony.
If I think thoughts that are in harmony with my beliefs and with certitude then the result is predictable in my outward life. Chaos comes from a lack of certainty or from thoughts that do no align with what I believe or a subtle combination of either.
I live in the kingdom of heaven when I am God conscious, attained to faith, with the indwelling spirit of Christ (which is the divine love, the Son/spirit of God,). To be clear for all my Muslim brothers and sisters, there is only one God, no polytheistic views here.
I live in Hell when I cheat, steal, judge others, feel that I am the holder of absolute truth (and you are not), do not love all, Ignore the teachings of the saints and prophets. But, new thoughts will purify my mind and clean my body. Then weave together to write an endless story.
I prefer peace, love and understanding over war, hate and judging.
I prefer heaven over hell.
The here after is tommorrow. Make it heaven or make it hell but remember it is hard to un-ring a bell.
All you need is love. J. Lennon.
Blessings and peace to all,
All in all,
B

there are 3 kinds of heaven
1- heaven of the birds.
2- heaven of the planets.
3- Heaven of God or Heaven of the Heavens.
2 Cor 12:2-4
know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.

I think it is past the universe. The Bible talks about a man (Paul I believe) going to the "third heaven". I think the first heaven is our atmosphere. The second heaven is the universe. Scientist haven't discovered the third heaven. Nor will they. It is where God lives.

I think Heaven is way up in the sky. I think its past the stars, the planets. Pretty much above space level.

Heaven is a physical place in the universe. We could probably never get to it by conventional travel. But its there somehwere. Perhaps it is at the physical center of the universe.

When we die we go to Paradise. Where that is, I do not know. I do not think it is in the Sun though. After Jesus comes again, the Earth will be cleansed and become perfect, and then it will be Heaven and where God will live.
