omg some people on this are so rude! i was wondering the same thing so i dont think it's a stupid question at all. i dont think that cats actually know which words you are saying, i just think that they can understand you with the tone of voice you're using. but this doesn't really answer the question lol

Can Cats Think

If you've been around cats much, you must have noticed that they can learn their names & other words & are often really good about figuring out the best way to get into places or to beg a treat from you. Since they are capable of learning & remembering, it seems to follow that they can think.
All of our cats have learned their names & most of them understand other words like "Down" or "Food" & in several cases, "Ball" (most of our cats have also enjoyed playing fetch @ one time or another, usually with a small ball). Our kitten has learned which of our pet rats to stay away from & which won't mind if he puts his paw on their cage. Our 10-year-old cat has figured out how to let *me* know that I need to change position so he can snuggle with me.
The intelligence of cats is one of the many things that makes them fascinating companions.

Yes absolutely.
For example my cats realise that when my alarm clock rings at 7 I get out of bed and feed them. So at about 6:30 they sit on my bedside cabinet patting at my alarm clock in an attempt to get it to ring and when it does they both run downstairs and sit by their food dish.

yes.. cats have very powerful minds... SO powerful that just by rubbing against your leg and meowing at you and then you go and get a can of cat food open it and put it on the floor. THERE CONTROLLING YOU MAN!!!!!!

By the way my cat has figured out how to get in and out of boxes and open doors for her self...

Though if my dad walks in the room when she wants down stairs then insead of using the catflap, she sits there looks at him meows, looks at the door and with out knowing why HE OPENS IT FOR HER!!

Well of course they can. All animals have a brain. That is used by all living creatures for thinking. Things like eating, drinking, etc are all activities thought of in the brain.

how do you think they became the second most powerful species on earth, right after the cockroaches and slightly ahead of the dogs.

Humans are of course at the bottom of the list.
