Share your skills with others.

If you like to read or enjoyed school, you can tutor kids at the library, help adults learn to read, or volunteer at the local public school.

If you are good with animals, you can volunteer at a local animal shelter.

If you like talking to and listening to people, you can visit nursing homes and hospitals.

If you are good a fund raising, most any organization in town would be happy to see you.

If you like the outdoors, campling, fishing, etc. you can volunteer with the Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Sierra Club, or any number of groups that work to preserve the environment.

Most communities have specific needs that are posted on their website. Search for your town or city and the word volunteer to see what comes up.

You could also simply extend your kindness. Like if you know some elderly people such as neighbors, ask them if they need any help with anything. Ex: mow their laws/shovel snow (whatever the time of year), do errands for them.

Find something that really interests you and use it to help the community. Like if you're an artist you can go to the town hall and offer to create a painting on the side of a building that shows some kind of community inspiration.

Most churches have many social service organizations.
Otherwise join one of the community service organizations:
Rotary, Kinsmen, Lions, Optimist, etc.
Or go to your civic or community centre & inquire.
Look in the local phone-book for volunteer organizations.
Contact your charitable fund-raising drive.
Check with community newspapers.
