Well...for those that think that...does that mean we should just...stop teaching kids anything? Since garnering new knowledge is apparently indoctrination, we shouldn't teach our kids or take them to school, no? It's a scientific theory...just like gravity or how our bodies work, so does that mean we can't teach kids ANYTHING, since it's indoctrinating them by making them smarter? Also, for those that don't believe in science, I read that mathmatics is the appication of science...so does that mean that you don't have to learn math, if science is wrong? Damn...wish I stayed Christian then just for that....

SisterZeal...so should that mean we should stop teaching gravity, and most of science then? Most science is theory, since in science you cannot prove 100% without a doubt that it is true. What would happen if a child was never taught the theories on gravity? Or what about all the fascinating theories on life, not evolution but just life? I guess then we should then stop teaching science altogether then?

Former Atheist- Um...in my opinion...and I'm pretty much sure in the Constitution too...you should teach religion (Creationism) in PRIVATE and let the schools do its job and teach the educational part.

Daniel D- By all means take your own kids to a private school or home school them. But the government has a law making it to provide free education to all citizens...so that's why the government has "our" jobs...now, if you want to teach your kids Stoichemetry and Sigma notation then go ahead...more power to you....

Seahock- Yeah...guess so...then we should also throw out any and all forms of math out, right? Fine by me but...what about all the little children who won't know how to count? So sad...but, in order to keep indoctrination away...we should do it...for our children.... -_-

I've heard the same thing and, of course, I found it to be as ridiculous a supposition as you have.
The scary part, however, isn't the scientific knowledge that kids are being taught, but instead, it is the religious attitudes that are so dangerously implanted into there defenseless young minds.
Religious training, indoctrination, (indeed, brainwashing,) is started on our very youngest citizens in their own homes and it is already well strengthened long before our public school systems have a chance to undo the harm. Home schooling programs and parochial educational institutions can further insulate these children from getting the information they need in order to make reasonable deductions about the world they've been born into.
It's a pity that these children are the victims of their very own parents - the very people who have been entrusted to provide them with honesty and opportunity in addition to love and protection. I see no immediate and feasible solutions to this dilemma and I can only hope that someone much smarter than I am does.

Most *actual* Christians are intelligent enough to have no problem realizing that an omniscient and omnipotent God probably created the process of evolution, right along with everything else in the universe.
The RRR Cult, though, a group of pseudo-Christians that **profess** Christianity and comprise only a mere (but very noisy) 6% of America's professing Christians, is steeped in ignorance, and is the source of most of the whining about the very OBVIOUS evolutionary process.
To "Terry W" -- You're right. And since evolution is eminantly FACTUAL, it should be universally taught, just like the rest of science.
To "ronbo" -- So you're suggesting, then, that schools should teach BOTH that 2 + 2 = 4 **and** 2 + 2 = 7? Because that's the equivelant of what you are advocating with so-called "creationism" and evolution. The proof of evolution abounds in rock strata worldwide. So to ALSO teach that creation took place **without** God's having created the evolutionary process would be teaching PSEUDO-science. Just as bad as teaching math (2+2=4) **and** PSEUDO-math (2+2=7) would be. It would be the destruction of science in education, and thus would negatively impact ALL education. We need to stick ONLY with the facts. And evolution is obvious and factual.

Schools should teach only facts.and how to think critically. Science is one of the best areas to develop those aspects. To bow down to a fanatical few and pollute science teaching with mythology of creationism will destroy all credibility of science. What next - a religious group who claim that there holy book denies the existence of atoms or that 2+2 really equals 5.
I do also see this as a problem in science teaching. It is taught as a set of facts that are got from a book - just like the religious educators proclaim. Science is more than that. It is a living, breathing, observable, testable examination of all things.

ok you've really got a point, gravity is really just a theory(trust me im majoring in physics) and so are pretty much all of our formulas that we use in physics, but its amazing how well these formulas work, its almost like they are idk...FACT? when you can find the weight of a car within a hundred pounds without using any weight measuring instruments im pretty sure that is generally considered good proof of scientific theory. this applies directly to evolution i have never once heard teachings on evolution in public schools without the teacher first going ok this is the best theory out there, im not here to say what you should believe, im just going to teach you whats in the curriculum and what the scientists are saying. it would however be ILLEGAL for the states to include teaching religion(in a non-historical manner) so obviously they won't teach both.

Personally I think everyone needs to chill out about teaching evolution in school. Evolution is a theory, so it can't be proven 100%, but it is based on known facts. Hell, according to Einstein gravity is a theory not a law. Everything in Science is constantly changing and adapted as we find out more, but it's always based on facts. Creationism isn't based on facts, its based on opinions (as is Atheism.. Atheists do generally use science to support their ideas though). For this reason, neither Atheism nor Creationism is taught in schools. But you have to teach Science. Science doesn't necessarily contradict nor reinforce religion so why are people so upset by it?

I am a christian and I believe that evolution should be taught in the schools. Just like our kids should be taught about all different religions... After all aren't we evolving??!?!? I believe in God with all that is in me, but I love learning about other religions and I believe it's important to have this knowledge. After all isn't religion to some form history???!!! Now when it comes to the question of creation, they should not be teaching if it's right or if it's wrong.

It scares the hel out of me too, don't feel bad.
I have a bad habit of randomly studying something until I can't stand the sight of it anymore and when ever I get in a dark ages mood I am always astounded how close the thinking is between the Dark Ages church.......and todays fundamentalist.
Remember, they killed many for claiming the world was round and circled the sun. Same concept.

Even the theory of realiativety cannot be proven 100%. I guess that means we should throw it out the window along with atomic theory and gravity.

nicely in South Park popular college, Its defined- Ms. Garrison: all good, teenagers, it somewhat is now my activity to instruct you the assumption of evolution. Butters: Oh boy! Ms. Garrison: Now I, for one, think of evolution is a gaggle of *bullcrap*! yet i've got been advised I could instruct it to you besides. It replaced into concept up via Charles Darwin and it is going some thing like this... [she is going as much as a great poster of evolution and starts pointing issues out along with her pointer] Ms. Garrison: interior the beginning up, we've been all fish. ok? Swimming around interior the water. and then sooner or later a pair of fish had a retard infant, and the retard infant replaced into diverse, so it have been given to stay. So Retard Fish is going directly to make extra retard infants, and then sooner or later, a retard infant fish crawled out of the sea with its... [she waves her left hand limply] Ms. Garrison: ...mutant fish palms... and it had butt intercourse with a squirrel or some thing and made this. [she factors to a prehistoric mammal rodent] Ms. Garrison: Retard frog-sqirrel, and then *that* had a retard infant which replaced right into a... monkey-fish-frog... and then this monkey-fish-frog had butt intercourse with that monkey, and that monkey had a mutant retard infant that screwed yet another monkey... and that made you! [she faces the class, with the recent woman between them looking around] Ms. Garrison: So there you circulate! you are the retarded offspring of 5 monkeys having butt intercourse with a fish-squirrel! Congratulations! whats up now this is one unique way of explaining evolution :) playstation . Come in this Andrew has a hell of plenty extra clever answer then the 1st :)
