Hon, when I see a veteran or even a soldier, I first ask them if they have seen any action and then I tell them "Thank You and Welcome Home" because I do not want to see another generation of soldiers and Veterans go without a "Welcome Home and Thank You". Recently an older man heard me speak about being a Vietnam Veteran and he came up to me and said just that, "Thank You and Welcome Home", it felt sooooo good, I cried.

You should always verbally thank veterans for their service to our nation whenever you are introduced to one who says they have served. You can Google websites that take donations for disabled vets. I always try to hire new employees who are vets, this is a very good way to honor them. You can send letters and emails, once again, Google is a great resource particularly at Christmas time, www.soldiersangels.org is one site I am familiar with. Also, I know of some soldiers families who I suspect could seriously use some financial help. I think contacting the military bases may be able to help you with this, but www.soldiersangels.org definitely can help you. Not flying on any airline that flies into Oakland international airport since they refused to allow access to the airport by our Marines returning from Iraq on two separate occasions, one time leaving them to stand four hours "outback" without even allowing them inside to use the restrooms! That would go a long way to honor our returning vets!

I honor veterans of past wars by serving my country in this one

My latest honor was yesterday. I was at the Norfolk Naval Base pass office updating my contractor's ID badge. I got talking with someone who asked about my T-shirt (travelling Viet Nam Wall) and asked if I was in Viet Nam and when. We was a Marine Vet. Before he left, I said, "Hey, Marine! Welcome home!" We shook hands and hugged.
Also, check out this website. You don't have to be a vet or a biker to be part of us. There is no membership fee, no dues and no meetings. www.patriotguard.org
Every time I go through the gate at ANY military base and there's a military person on duty, I always thank him/her for his/her service to our country. I spent the past 3 weeks on a project at the clinic at Norfolk Naval Base. The day we finished, I told the sailor who had been my point of contact, "Thank you for serving our country, shipmate." She teared up and said, "Oh, thank you so much."
MICHAEL G up there needs a good a.s.s whoopin and so does the girl. puke
