These cars have to be hand built and the tolerances for parts are closer then normal manufacturing methods will produce.
Modern assembly line methods dictate that easy fabrication of parts and assembly have precedence over many design aspects of an automobile.
While the Ford GT was designed from the performance point of view only. This required ease of assembly and manufacturing concerns to be tossed out the window. The result was a high cost, that those in the know that have the money were/are willing to fork out the cash.

It is a low production model. They were only built for 3 years as I recall. Each one was hand built up in Detroit at the same plant that made the Lincoln Town Car as I also recall. Considering what you were getting, the price may not be all that expensive. I assume that you are talking about the remake of the Ford GT-40. It was only 40 inches tall, but the new one was made several inches taller to accommodate larger people

They just hand-built a few, and that costs a lot , but they knew they could get a high price for them, so it was okay to do so. Most things like the Ford GT never get built. It's hard to justify a project like that. In this case it worked.
The reason it worked in this case is that a real GT is a real piece of automotive history, and as such they're very expensive. It's nice to have a fake one (even for $160,000) because you can drive it, and people that couldn't afford a real one can afford a fake one.

Because they're one of the best sports cars ever made. I would love to have a 1965 Mustang Convertible or a Mustang GT 500. I was at a car show today, I saw a 1917 Model T. It had a crank in the front! It was soooooo awesome. Probably one of the top three or so best cars there.

Very limited production and mostly parts that are unique to the car. Mass produced scars are always cheaper. You are also paying for research and development.
