The latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) contains updates to previous versions. There might be some applications or applets written and tested against a specific version of the JRE.

Therefore Java support recommendeds that users keep older versions of the JRE on your system. If you are running low on disk space, you can uninstall older versions of the JRE. However those other (usually older) applications or applets may not function properly.

To remove older versions of JRE, go to Windows Java Runtime Environment uninstallation instructions page: http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010800.xml

of course, you can delete any old files there...once you get the new version, the old one is no longer used...however, when removing the old files, there may be a pop-up that says that a file is shared, don't delete any shared files...say no to all shared and you should do just great...good luck!!!
