First of all getting voted most popular driver and being most popular is two different things. Bill Elliot was voted time and time again the most popular years ago but go to a race back then and compare Dale Earnhardt's hats, shirts and crowd response to Bill Elliot's and you would wonder if he raced in some other series.
I always thought that McDonald's favorite driver pick was Elliot because he look so much like Ronald.
When they did a survey back in the day Dale Sr and Jeff Gordon had control of 75 % of the sovener trailer bussiness and the rest of the drivers split the rest.
So the VOTE thing doesn't mean much. Look at the red in the stands. That tells the story. Back in the day there were the two who shared top dog now there is pretty much Jr. If Sr. was alive today I think Jr would be top dog because of so many young people brought into the sport. And one thing for sure DEI would not of feel so far behind the rest of the team as they have now.

Earnhardt Sr could drive a race car and win races Earnhardt Jr cant drive a car much less a race car every time he gets in 1 it costs thousands of dollars in repairs and how many races has jr won lately. you take it from there.

That really depends on you definition of popular. If it is
who is liked more then I have to give it to Jr. But if it is who
was/is watched more, then I have to say that Sr. was probably
the most popular driver ever. It seems that half the fans loved
him and the other half hated him, making him more popular.

My opinion is that he is more popular. The reason is his dad. He inherited a lot of Sr. fans plus some of his own. The other reason being is his endorsements, his face is out there all of the time. You can talk to someone who doesn't know or care about Nascar, however, they know who Jr. is. I know a lot of people knew who Sr. was but, Jr. is everywhere - TV, radio, etc.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been named the most popular driver the last four years. Dale Earnhardt Sr. only won the award once, posthumously in 2001.

I think Jr is more popular than his dad, probably be cause of all the media, theres alot more of it now, plus more big sponsors and endorsements...Nascar is every where now, where back in the day of his dad, it was more just a southern sport, the last couple yrs of his dads life, everyone started to know who Dale Sr was....then he unfortunately that dreadful day in daytona.. RIP Dale Sr, you are still the greatest in my heart.

People say more but it's too early to tell. If he can sustain this popularity for another 10 years, he will eclipse his father.
