Reading the newspaper gives you a ton of things to discuss. Personally, I like reading the newspaper much better than watching the news. The reason is because all the news shows are a bunch of stories about people dying and tragic events but in the paper you can read what you want when you want. I read it in the morning during breakfast and have plenty to talk about that day. You don't want to be the town reporter, just show her that you are up to date and know whats going on around.

First I will say that if you are on the phone and have nothing to say, there's always "good-bye", but I know what you are talking about so I will make some suggestions.
There are the getting to know you better type of questions.
What's your favorite color?
What's your favorite food?
What's your favorite TV show?
If you were going to be stranded on a deserted island and could take five things, what would they be?
Tell me about your favorite Christmas memory.
If you could build a house any way you liked, tell me about how your house would be.
You can talk about school.
Ask how her day went.
Talk about whatever is on the news, current events, politics.
Ask her about her hobbies.
Whenever she talks listen carefully and ask appropriate questions.

why dont you start asking how she has been for the day then spontaneously come up with the rest like what she had for lunch... was she with any of her friends for the day...
are you too shy to talk to your girl or youve been together all the time that you've ran out of things to spice up your conversastion over the phone? try to make new surprises. its helps if youd read new stuffs and tell her what uve learned

Hey ! Ask how her day went, if she has plans(Though she might expect you to ask her somewhere),and if ur really lost for words ask if theres anything she wants to talk about.Also tell her about something that happened in your life (it gets very boring just talking about one of you).And u can stall by randomly saying that u luv her while u think of somerthing else to say.Even ask what she had for dinner, lunch of breakfast and what time of the day she woke up.I know that this stuff is random but its something.

you should talk to her about the old WWF wrestler "kwang." he was a japanese guy and he would win by blowing this green smoke into his opponent's eyes when the referee wasn't looking-- and so the ref never seemed to notice that the guy getting pinned had green stuff all over his face, a clear indication of foul-play. that used to keep me up at night man. F***

just get her to talk by asking open ended questions. Like about her day school friends. Most likely she will start some story

School; work; life plans and goals; other people; clothes; favorites (color, food, car, anything); ways to make the relationship stronger; what brought you together in the first place; interests (asking her what she likes and exploring that in detail); tv shows or movies; plans for your next date

i used to have the same problem
so i just stopped talking on the phone so much
call her like once a week, and spend more time with her in person

Ask her if shes ever been to a concert before or what her favorite concert to go to would be and then start planning on a chance to go to that concert together.

- a really bad joke that you've heard before
- music (if she's into it)
- tv shows
- celebrities
- life, religion (might get interesting)
- how much you love her
- plans for your future
- pets, animals
- lastly, find things that you guys can relate to... like if you guys love the same band, then talk about them! you see? just ask questions.
