Lightening thin hair will generally make it look thinner still. Dying it a darker color may help there. And most forms of lightening are very hard on the hair itself. But perhaps it would be good to wait, if your hair is already in poor condition.
Perhaps look at some of the conditioning treatments (Hair Masques) that you use once a week, leave on for a while, then shampoo out. There are some intensive treatments that would be of help here. As well as that make sure that the shampoo and conditioner you use are suitable for colored hair.
Make sure that you wash all the residual conditioner out, or it may weigh down the hair, making it look even thinner.
I would be very careful of blow drying your hair for extra fullness if its already damaged - if you have too, try a low heat setting, or use a diffuser to give a less intense heat.
Good luck from someone who also has thin hair.

Been there. My hair is fine too. Give the color at least a week and it will start to be less dramatic due to washing it. As far as it being thin, I find that a volumizing mousse helps me out bigtime. I blow it dry straight but then run some glosser (not much) through it to get rid of flyaways. I can relate to your dilemma but we will always have thin hair, no cut, style or color will change it. Just work with what you got girl.

All stylists are different, but if they really want to be professional about it most will help you if you aren't satisfied with your results. Call and explain your situation and see if you can have it fixed at little or no cost.
