Yes, New York City consists of five boroughs (sometimes spelled "Boro"): Brooklyn, The Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Each borough has its own unique character and history as a separate entity and as part of the greater NYC.
Some fun things to know:
Brooklyn was the last to join the conglomerate in 1898. It was actually referred to as "The Mistake of '98," as voting scandal has always been alleged. It is the most populated borough of NYC.
The Bronx, the only one referenced to with "The" is actually named after a family, The Bronck family. Later, the spelling morphed into "Bronx."
Manhattan, an island, is the most densely populated borough of NYC. Also, a part of Manhattan, "Marble Hill," is actually separated from Manhattan island and is now connected to the mainland section of The Bronx.
Queens is the largest borough in area. Also, it is the only borough to which you address mail to the specific town or village that the person lives in. So, your mail is addressed to Jamaica, NY, or Astoria, NY, instead of Queens, NY.
Staten Island is the least populated of the five boroughs. At one time in the 1980s and early 1990s, residents of Staten Island were considering seceding from NYC; however, it remains part of the fold.
All five boroughs also have county names:
Brooklyn-Kings County
The Bronx-Bronx County
Manhattan-New York County
Queens-Queens County
Staten Island-Richmond County
In addition, the area that people commonly refer to as "Long Island" (the midway towards the eastern tip) is only half of the actual Long Island. Long Island in its entirety also includes Brooklyn and Queens, which cover the western area.
Have fun discovering New York City!

EDIT FOR THE TWO POSTERS AFTER ME:
If this place needed English teachers, they would ask for them. Even though I'm American, I recognize a pompous a^^ when I see one. I also know that a burrow is NOT a rabbit.

A lot more than that, I should think - there must be millions of rabbits in the city.
The word you're looking for is "boroughs".
And although I'm not American, even I know that it's spelt "Manhattan".
